Re: Great adventure-games makers

There have been great ones from Europe, as well: Ragnar Tørnquist, who made The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, and Benoît Sokal, who made the Syberia games. Anyone here know Jonathan Boakes, the UK designer? He made the Dark Fall series and The Lost Crown, which i enjoyed very much.

Re: Sherlock Holmes FMV

I have the original CD-ROMs from the 90s and they were, sadly, very forgettable games due to the primitive FMV technology at the time. The best Sherlock Holmes games were the ones made by Frogwares in the past 10 years.

Re: Star Wars Remastered

These games are not "remastered", just re-released in their original forms.

Re: Why Not Put Tex on the "Steam" site?

Tex games have been on GOG for ages, but it came to Steam much later, I believe.

Pandora Directive easter egg

Two years ago, someone at the Big Finish Games forum discovered a previously unknown easter egg in "The Pandora Directive" in which the famous infomercial line "I have fawllen and I can't get up!" can be heard if you click the mouse in a certain way in the Mayan fireball room. Ma...

Re: Fallout and Tex Murphy

Here is the Robco facility as seen in Fallout 3 , located near the Washington DC area. Maybe you'll find a spare Alien Abductor there. And here is a picture of the illustrious founder of Robco Industries, Robert House, as seen in Fallout New Vegas. He lived during the early 21st century, the same p...

Re: Fallout and Tex Murphy

And of course, both franchises feature mutants as the unfortunate survivors of a nuclear holocaust. In Fallout, they are called "ghouls" and "supermutants". Just like Tex Murphy, in FO you mingle with the ghouls and become a part of their struggle. The first Fallout game came out...

Fallout and Tex Murphy

Happy holidays to all from an infrequent poster here. I don't know if this is an interesting topic or not, but I find it interesting that two of my favorite game franchises, the Fallout series and the Tex Murphy adventure series, have a number of similarities. Both feature the name "RobCo"...

Bizarre Easter Egg in Pandora Directive

In the Mayan fireball room, if you click the wall, the right statue, the wall again, the left statue, and the wall again, you will hear an audio clip saying, "I have fallen and I can't get up!" Here is a video capture. Someone posted about this 4 years ago at the Big Finish Games forum , b...

Adventure games with first-person freedom of movement

Plenty of action, role-playing, and survival horror games have that already. But for adventure games, that is more like an exception; the norm is still point-and-click interface with restricted viewpoint and movement. To qualify as having "first-person freedom of movement", the player's vi...

Re: Sega buys Atlus

I actually asked, I believe was, Kevin at the Salt Lake CC on the nature of the Atlus partnership and whether it could result in a similar fallout as what occurred with Microsoft. He reassured me that this would not be the case, Atlus is serving solely as a publisher/distributor they did not buyout...

Re: Black Mesa Source

Am I missing something here? Then what exactly is the item Half-Life: Source on Steam? I thought that was half-life remade with the half-life 2 engine? Never picked it up, but this Black Mesa thing seems very similar to something already on the market. Am I missing something? Half Life: Source is i...

Re: Pandora Directive: #9 of all time??? Pffffft!

Are Portal and Portal 2 adventure games?? They are basically puzzle games. A puzzle game is more repetitive in that the same basic mechanic of puzzle solving repeats itself throughout the game, and that certainly applies in Portal 1 & 2.

Re: Black Mesa Source

Eight years is not a terribly long time for a game of this type to be made (even for established studios), especially when it was done with only a few people with no pay. Also, they only released the first 14 of the 18 chapters. The release of the last 4 chapters, including notably the Xen level, is...
