Writing an article about the series...

Hi everybody, I'm new around here. I'm Orakio Rob, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since Portuguese is my native language, please excuse any mistakes.

I'm a new Tex Murphy fan. I started playing Mean Streets last year, thanks to GOG.com. I loved the game (even the often criticized fligh sim sections), and as soon as I finished it I went straight to Martian Memorandum. What a great game, loved it too.

Then I jumped to UAKM, finished it and went to Pandora Directive, which I've just completed -- I've got the Lombard ending, but at least I hadn't got my leg shot :P I'm downloading Overseer from GOG right now.

The thing is, I write articles for a Brazilian retrogaming magazine called "Old!Gamer". I suggested a feature about the Tex Murphy series, and my editor said "Ok". So now I must get to work, and I have very little time to get it done!

Since I'm still new to the series, I would like to know what are the essential things related to the series that I can't miss in this feature. I've read Aaron's interviews, and I'm now trying to find all the information I can about the development of these games. I know I should mention Aaron novelizations, and I'll check the Radio Theater today. But is there any other important info that is not very clearly highlighted in this website? Something specific that I should search around on Google? Something that would make you curse if you were a Tex fan, had bought the magazine and couldn't find in its pages?

Two more questions:

- I see Aaron is very active in the community. But what about Chris? Does he ever show up?
- There are lots of info on the FMV games, but what about MS and MM? Is there any good source of information about these titles?

Thank you all! Tex games are really cool, and I'm glad I've finally got to play these games. I hope my feature will make the game more widely known here in Brazil.

Edit: I forgot to mention a few references... here is a post I wrote about Mean Streets on my blog (in Portuguese) http://www.gagagames.com.br/?p=23146

Edit 2: ... and here is the magazine I'm writing this feature for, Old!Gamer: http://www.europanet.com.br/site/index. ... g_id=21468
Hello.

I'm from Brazil too (i live in Curitiba). I love adventure games. The first time i heard of Tex Murphy has in 1994, when Under a Killing Moon has released. I bought the game in 1995 after getting my hand in a multimedia kit (CD-ROM drive, sound card and speakers). Then i started playing games like Phantasmagoria, Gabriel Knight 2, and several others. I loved Under a Killing Moon. I heard about Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum in the manual of UAKM. In 1996, The Pandora Directive was released here in Brazil with subtitles in Portuguese. I bought Pandora in 1997 (the version with Brazilian Portuguese subtitles). Not long later, i was able to get a copy of Martian Memorandum. In 1998, i got Mean Streets. In 1999, i got Overseer.

There are other two great adventure games made by Access Software.

Amazon: Guardians of Eden (i got this game in 1995)

Countdown (i got this game in 1998)

Chris Jones and Aaron Conners are still making games with their new company (Big Finish Games). I played them all.

I also wrote a review in Portuguese for the first two games of the Tex Murphy series.

There is also video walkthroughs that i made for all the Tex Murphy games.

They are here:

So what people say is true, we find Brazilian people everywhere ^_^

I wasn't aware that Pandora Directive had been subtitled in Portuguese, thanks for the info!

*checking your YouTube videos*

In fact, I've watched the final steps of Martian Memorandum through your YouTube channel! The truth is, I came to a dead end while playing MM... in the casino, i didn't have the glasses on my first visit, so I went through the air conditioning ducts and stuff, but I only got the glasses later. So, when I came back with the glasses, I would get killed everytime by Big Dick, because he gets back to his office :(
Welcome guys! And AVD Ripper, I've enjoyed your uploads for years. Thanks for all that you do!

To answer your question orakio_rob, Aaron has been keeping his eye here for a long time, and chimes in occasionally, but Chris is a bit shy about all that kind of stuff. So AC is the conduit for information. Currently aside from being a Sim's senior creative director, he is also working on the further adventures of Tex Murphy, albeit in a novel format at the moment.

I VERY excited about reading it!!!

Hugs!
Jen
Thanks, Jen!

I'm considering a small gallery of the weirdest people found in the series. Funny names are a big plus.

I'm sure Big Dick and Michelle from Martian Memorandum will be on it (by the way, does anybody know who plays the role of Michelle?). Delores from Mean Streets may show up too, she is ugly as hell!

For this gallery of bizarre characters, I guess I'll focus on the first two games, as they have a really weird cast. Do you have any suggestions on other bizarre characters/funny names from the first two games? Aaron mentioned in an interview that he had to change many of the names in Overseer because they were clear sexual references in Mean Streets. Do you people recall some of these names?
I've just remembered there is a section about the characteres from each game in this website ^_^

Larry Hammond, Ron Meat, Rockwell Bache are Guy Callabero are weird enough to be in the gallery too.
Bizarre Characters... I was going to recommend Larry Hammond, but you caught that one, how about Beek Nariz and Inspector Burns...

I'll focus only on the first two games for this section of bizarre characteres, but thanks anyway! In fact, you've just brought to my attention that I must find a way to include Inspector Burns in this feature...

I'm now looking for a good scan of the Martian Memorandum box on the Internet, but I can't find any good image on Google, aside from the one from Moby Games with a watermark... does any of you have a decent scan of the Martian Memorandum box? In fact, it would be a nice addition to the Memorabilia section of this site.

Thank you all for your help!
It's a bit smaller than the one floating around with the water stain, but I think it is a pretty clean copy...
It came from the Big Finish Facebook page...

Here is a small picture of the Dual cover... Not sure who created this one... I just plucked it from GOG...
