Todays news from London

I just wanted to take a second to say that my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Britian today. I hope that justice can be swift and pray that those injured can heal from their wounds.
I am a little confused as to the purpose of the attack. I believe it was mentioned that it had something to do with the G8 summit, but not exactly sure what. Can someone please help me out? Not to say that any excuse would be good enough, just curious as to the reasoning.

According to CNN, today marks the beginning of the G8 summit in Scotland. Also, yesterday the 2012 Olumpics were announced to be held in London, so today there was to be a celebration for receiving the honor of hosting it, but that's been cancelled/postponed for obvious reasons.

Terrorism equals murder - plain and simple. In my life I cannot recall once terrorist incident that has proven fruitful. Yet, they persist in disrupting the lives of others.

Hope Demonlawyer is okay (and any other Tex fans in that area).

Well from someone that went to work in London this morning, it was very strange. No red buses, lots of police cars and ambulances and sirens every few minutes. The whole public transport system shut down. No underground and no trains either.

They've been rehearsing for emergency situations like this since 9/11 and today paid off. The emergency services seemed very well organised to deal with the aftermath of it all, it's just a shame it happened in the first place.

Most people in London left to go home after lunch and it took hours to get home.

One of my friends was near one of the buses where the bomb went off. She was very shaken by it.

It also seems strange to attack London when the G8 is in Scotland, but maybe all the security is up there too. And in the last few years they've attacked the US, Spain, and now the UK. I hope there's no more of it, but I wonder who's next.

I am glad to hear that you are ok demonlawyer. It must have been a rough day for everyone in London.
Not to forget there were also bomb attacks on several places in istanbul a while ago ...

As far as I read in Danish media, it could very well be Italy or Denmark next. At least I think the terrorist groups did make a public warning to these countries for their participation in Iraq and general support of the US. Also George Bush did visit our country 2 days ago for 16 hours on his birthday before going to the G8-summit. I know it may sound harsh, but I'm really glad I don't live near any major city that has lots of busses, underground stations or train stations but I do feel very sorry about the unfortunate people who were a part of the bombings in London

The one good thing that's come of it I guess is that everyone I know involved spoke to everyone they loved last night. I even had neighbours knocking on my door last night making sure we were ok. It's sad, but things like this really bring people together. And that is another reason the terrorists will never win.
Good news from DL. :D

Glad you are okay David... I actually thought of you when I heard the news, but this is good news everything is okay, and you make a very valid point.

I can only imagine how difficult it would be for London from a commcercial point of view without the Underground at the moment.

It's not a stretch to say that war equals murder as well. As for whether or not it is fruitful you would first have to discern what the terrorists' goals are. A terrorist attack such as this will prompt strong responses which the terrorists in turn can use to further their own agenda. Less and less room is left for those who seek a peaceful solution.

Terrorism is not war; war is war. I do not support either, if you must know. I did my time during the Viet Nam war and I will never support war again. But that's another story for another time.

War is usually declared when nations simply refuse to agree on terms and then a formal declaration is made. At least there is some civility to it all regardless that murder/war is extremely uncivil. Terrorism is outright murder and mayhem. Was it war that caused 911? Was it war that caused yesterday's London bombings? No! It was terrorism, a different animal altogether. Will those or have those two incidents promote peace among nations? Will either or both cause people to stop and think? Does it promote a just cause? Tell me this, just what does Al-Quida ( and any other terrorist group) expect to accomplish by blowing up subways, busses, trade centers, etc.? Have your views regarding these well planned, murderous events caused you to sympathize with those responsible?

Let's talk about the ones in charge, the so-called leaders of these fanatics. Why don't they blow themselves up in a car bombing raid? Oh, yes, I forgot, someone has to lead this rabble. What a pathetic excuse!

Do you have anything to say to those who've lost loved ones in these criminal acts? Tell the innocent victims that these poor people - the terrorists - are just trying to stop a war some place else in the world and what they are doing may prove fruitful.

I understand the point you are trying to make, Crowley, and I am NOT carping on you. My life spans the 72 Olympics in Germany when terrorists blew up the plane and killed 11 Jewish athletes because of their "cause." Nothing good came out of that and nothing good will come out of any terrorist attack - ever! Every murderer needs an excuse to murder. Terrorism is an excuse to murder. "Here's one for Jesus!" "Here's one for Allah!" "Here's for for Yahweh!" And so on and so on. Think up a cause, give it an unusual name, and start the slaughter. That is all terrorism is and all it ever will be. Anyone remember the SLA? Good example of the point I'm trying to make.
