Some time ago, I played "Law and Order:Dead on the Money" and "Law and Order II:Double or Nothing". I arrested the killers and convicted them. James Stanton and Martin Tanner are roting in "Sing Sing" now. That dumb, Miles Duncan didn't help them.
A little later, I checked http://www.legacyinteractive.com. I noticed, that "Law and Order III: Justice is Served" in the store. When I read game preview, I became MAD :x ! I immediately bought this game. You may ask: why I became mad? Here is an answer.

Someone killed the girl. She was best tennis player, she was only 20, eight years younger than me. "Elena Kusarova" was her name. She was... an ukrainian! My ancestors were ukrainians! I became mad! Who dared to kill my compatriot? WHO?! But, enough. My madness won't help me. Calm down, Alex! Down to work. I must track down and arrest the killer, then convict him/her. I MUST! It's not just official case, it's my PERSONAL case! It' MY case! Please, NO HINTS, NO SPOILERS! I'll solve the case by my own.

Alex.

P.S. You may call me crazy, but all I've said is true.
Truly yours,
Alexander.

Hah! Hilarious, Alex!

This time...it's personal!
As it turns out, one of my best friends throughout elementary and high school had Ukranion origins. And my ancestors stem back into Yugoslavia, so I guess that's not too far off. Take them down Alex! Send the bad guys to jail! :)

Great post, Alex. Only you could be so dramatic over a game.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
It's great to get engrossed and feel really involved in a story Alex. Its rare something drags us in that far, but very enjoyable when it does, even if ultimately its becomes a tragic story. But heres hoping yours has a happy ending. Have fun and go get 'em! :D

MY REPORT:

Case: The world of women’s tennis has become big business. Image, marketability, endorsements and prize money have all grown exponentially over the years. The competition is fierce and the elimination of opponents may not just take place on the courts. So it seems for twenty-year-old Elena Kusarova when her body shows up on the locker room floor on the day before the U.S. Open is about to begin. There is no shortage of suspects to choose from since becoming a top star these days involves an entourage of advisors and Svengalis, a long list of rivals and over-zealous fans, not to mention parents whose ambitions go way beyond a trophy on the mantelpiece.

I became an N.Y.P.D. Detective.

My boss: The Lieutenant of N.Y.P.D. (Young woman, I don't know her name and I don't have her photo).

My partners:

Image
Senior Homicide Detective, Lennie Briscoe.

Image
N.Y.P.D. Detective, Ed Green.

My other colleagues:

Elizabeth Hernandez (Crime Lab Assistant)
Tony Jefferson (Researcher)
Jack Foster (Surveillance Officer)
Sharon Rutledge, M.D. (Medical Examiner)
Geoffrey Hoffman, M.D. (Psychiatrist)

My possibilities:

Collecting Evidence
Interviewing Witnesses and Suspects
Requesting Reports on Evidence and Witnesses:

Lab Test Request: analysis a piece of evidence in the Crime Lab.
Research Request: request a background check on a witness or research on a piece of evidence.
Surveillance Request: watching over witnesses and suspects.
Psychiatric Evaluation Request: request a psychiatric evaluation of a witness (available only if suspect is under arrest).

Obtaining Warrants:

Search Warrant: To obtain an approved search warrant, I’ll need to identify the suspect and offer enough supporting evidence, witness testimony, and test results to provide probable cause.

Arrest Warrant: : My main goal as a detective is to arrest the murder suspect. After deciding which suspect to arrest, I’ll have to provide sufficient evidence, witness testimony, and test results as probable cause for the arrest warrant to be approved.

Damn, that was TOUGH case! Almost everybody was under suspicion. And some witnesses didn't want to tell whole truth. But, finally they confessed. I tracked down the killer and obtained arrest warrant. Killer was arrested.

Here, a newspaper article:

But, that wasn't all. Now, time to convict the killer.

I became an assistant of District Attorney.

My new boss: District Attorney, Charles Northcutt. (no photo)

My new partner:

Image
Assistant of District Attorney, Serena Southerlyn.

And my tough opponent, Hershel Morton (Defense attorney, no photo, sorry).

My possibilities:

Subpoena: The subpoena is used to determine which witnesses and evidence I want to discuss during trial. I must move witnesses with testimony that will support my case from my inventory to the Witness section. I should drag evidence and test results from my inventory to the Supporting Evidence section so that I can call expert witnesses to the stand to testify about those items.

Rebuttal Subpoena: The rebuttal subpoena is used to present last-minute witnesses and evidence before I give my closing statement. The rebuttal subpoena becomes available after I rest my case.

Further Investigation: During my investigation before and between trial days, I may go back to any area previously explored in the first part of the game, interview witnesses, and perform additional analyses on evidence. When I have completed all of the important investigation that can be done between trial days, Charles Northcutt (District Attorney) will let me know that I can go to trial. I must then fill out my subpoena in the A.D.A’s office and select “Go to Trial.” When I am ready to start second day of trial, Northcutt will let me know and the trial will automatically begin.

Submitting my Subpoena

For the first and third days of trial, I will need to fill out the subpoena forms on my desk. I must fill out the subpoena for the prosecution’s case and the rebuttal subpoena for the rebuttal. In order to call witnesses to the stand, I must drag witnesses and evidence into the subpoena. Witnesses belong in the Witness List section, and evidence, surveillance reports, psychiatric evaluations, lab tests, and research reports go in the Evidence List section. The witnesses I select will appear on my Witness List in court. The evidence I select will be discussed by the appropriate expert witness. Expert witnesses will automatically appear on my Witness List in court to discuss the evidence and reports I placed in my subpoena. Detective Lennie Briscoe will discuss evidence found at the crime scene and suspects’ residences, Elizabeth Hernandez will describe lab tests on evidence, Tony Jefferson will address research reports, Sharon Rutledge will talk about evidence found on the body, Geoffrey Hoffman will present psychiatric evaluations, and Jack Foster will describe surveillance reports.

Arguing my Case

When I get to court, I must call witnesses and experts to the stand by selecting them from my Witness List. Experts will talk specifically about the physical evidence and reports I have included in my subpoena. I must select my questions. Some of the questions are legally inadmissible, so I must be sure to select only those questions that are allowable, or Morton will object. If I do well enough in my questioning, Morton may choose to cross-examine my witnesses. When he is questioning a witness, I must listen closely to determine when his questions are legally inadmissible. When he is out of line, I can object.

1st day of additional investigation.

Not much luck. Requested Psychiatric Evaluation on Mark Greenfield. Searched his office. Found some interesting pieces of evidience. Questioned some witnesses. Nothing new.

Trial.
CASE FOR PROSECUTION.

I presented my case to the Jury.
Questioned the witnesses. Then, Morton did. He was trying to undermine my case, but he wasn't lucky. I objected all Morton's inadmissible questions. Morton asked the judge to dismiss the case, but judge refused.

2nd day of additional investigaton.

This time, I was more lucky. Found new witnesses. They gave me some info about Greenfield. Interesting character!

Trial.
CASE FOR DEFENSE.

Morton tried again to undermine the case. Tough guy! He called his witnesses and Mark Greenfield. Morton was questioning the witnesses. He was trying to make them suspects. But, I objected his questions. Then, I questioned Morton's witnesses. They were innocent. I questioned Greenfield too. What a liar! Case for Defense failed.

3rd day of additional investigation.

I had a last chance to find undeniable proves of Greenfield's guilt. This time, I was a little more forceful, but I found the nessesary witnesses.

Trial.
CASE FOR REBUTTAL.

I questoned my last witnesses. Morton tried to trick them. It was his last chance. No matter! I objected his questions. Then the judge asked to tell the "Closing Arguments". From "Prosecution" and from "Defense". Serena Southerlyn told her "Argument". Then Morton did. Judge asked Jury about the Verdict.

The Verdict was: "GUILTY!". Greenfield was convicted.

Here is another article (With Hershel Morton's photo. He is speaking with the media):

Mark Greenfield made a GRAVE mistake. He SHOULDN'T kill my compatriot.

CASE STATUS: SOLVED AND CLOSED.

JUSTICE IS SERVED!

Hey Alex,
From your posting dates (Mar 6 to Aug 27) I see that you've been on the case for nearly six months. That is some serious dedication! I salute you. Congratulations.
Dr. Paul, you missunderstood me. I solved the case for five days. TOUGH CASE! I smoked 8 packs of "Rothmans" cigarettes. I was DEADLY tired. I forgot about "L&O3: Justice is Served". Now, I've wrote my full report.
As I said before, it was my PERSONAL case. MY CASE! MY, ONLY!
Truly yours,
Alexander.

Gee, and I was CERTAIN that the butler did it.
Never too late for coffee, never too early for beer.
...you missunderstood me. I solved the case for five days.
<breaths> That is much better. I was thinking, "Gee, these L&W games must really be hard if it takes that long." But five days of total commitment. That's suggests a pretty decent game.

"Law and Order II: Double or Nothing".

THE CASE: A renowned scientist working on a top-secret project is found shot to death in his car and I need to track down the killer. Who killed Dr. Ramos? His bitter wife or jealous mistress? What about his domineering boss? Or could it have been that ambitious co-worker who uncovered his controversial research?
