Is mac Malden a norm or a mutant?

I guess the writer just thought it was convenient for the story to make Chelsee a mutant without bothering with such small details like what this mutation actually could be.

Yeah, first time Tex goes to see that police woman whose name I cannot recall (your police connection, good enough), Malden is the guy getting yelled at and subsequently bumps into Tex on his way out the door.
