New Hollywood Detective Series - official

From Yahoo UK News - can anyone Aaron's thoughts on this and/or more news on this topic? Very exciting...:-

British actor Clive Owen has apparently landed the role of legendary American private eye Philip Marlowe in a new movie series.

The forthcoming film will be based on one of Raymond Chandler's stories, reports the Daily Mirror.

A studio executive told the paper: "Clive is thrilled to have landed the sought-after role."

The 42-year-old actor will be following past stars Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, Dick Powell, James Garner, Robert Montgomery and Elliot Gould, who have also played the detective.

The Philip Marlowe character is a cynical but idealistic, wise-cracking detective.

The stories include Farewell, My Lovely and The Big Sleep.

Earlier this month it was announced that the actor would be the face of Lancome's new men's grooming products, including a fragrance and anti-ageing skincare line.

The Coventry-born Children Of Men star was nominated for an Oscar for his role in 2004's Closer
That sounds fantastic! Clive Owen is a great actor and perfect for the part. Also, although I was disappointed when he did not land the new James Bond role, I must say Casino Royale is probably the best Bond film ever made and the actor playing Bond was most excellent.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
I, too, was skeptical of Craig being awarded the role of Bond. But, I have to say that I enjoyed Casino Royale immensely.
I've read different things about this. One is it will be a few hour-long features with original content, staring Clive as Marlowe. With a bit of luck it's both that and full length adaptations of a few of the books. In any case I'm excited, though I wonder if Clive can pull off the accent.
I like Clive Owen as a actor quite a bit. He sort of reminds me of a modern-day Cary Grant. His bearing is very similar to Grant's and he also has that peculiar accent that you you can't quite place. A little sophisticated, and a little rowdy.

That being said, it's hard for me to picture him as Marlow, but I have confidence that he can pull it off.
Oh Boy... ever since seeing Clive Owen in Sin City I've been dying to see him in detective noir flicks! I can't wait!

-Cub. =o)
I find this very intresting, if only because I was reading the Big Sleep thread, and I was thinking "I haven't seen these older movies" ...etc ... I'm not too much in to the whole old movie thing. Black and White films, and anything too old seems to just get on my nerves. Blasphemer you cry, I know ... but that's just how I am. But anyway, I was thinking when I read that thread "How come noone has tried to do an updating of the Marlowe character for the new generation .." .. and lo and behold.

That's creepy. I love Clive Owen. I especially liked his performance in the movie King Arthur. Sin City and Inside Man were another of my favorites with him in it.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Oh dear god! Please let this show come to Australian TV. We need something like that. And I love Clive Owen, he's such an awesome British actor.
I didn't like Inside Man--I thought it was way too predictable and way beneath Spike Lee. I was hoping for so much more than what I got...but that usually happens for me with movies, so I'm disappointed pretty consistently.

This could be a cool shift though. Maybe if this does well, then there will be copy cat movies, and MAYBE even some games....
