Guide for Running Tex in DOSBOX

Greets all,

I've been a lurker here for a bit--but thought I could add some value. So, I posted a quick guide for running UAKM and PD in DOSBOX on my blog.

Key thought here is to have fairly good performance and no disk swapping. This method has been used on multiple machines, so (theoretically at least) it ought to work anywhere.

You can go to the main site for the next several days and see it, plus a copy of the radio theater mp3s...which I couldn't find anymore on the web. Or go directly to the blog post:

Long Live Tex.

Whoops...ok, the radio theater filesARE still here--I should have realized. But I wasn't digging deeply enough. Mainly, when you google them unofficialtexmurphy.com hits, but the link is dead.

If you want to get them from this site, they are under "Case Files", then "Radio Theater", not under "Downloads" as I originally imagined.

I'm sure everyone else already knew this :) Thanks for not flaming.
Welcome to the board!!!

Pull up a chair and stay awhile!!
Hi, tanstaafl32, really nice setup for Dosbox.

But excuse me of asking and making at the same time a very blatant and shameful plug for my own programs :D :
Why do you still use images and not simply the provided installers?
I find all the creating, set up and managing of disc images way to much hustle and this was the main reason, that I looked into the DVD/HD stuff in the first place.
With this solution I finally got the Tex Murphy games to work properly! I've tried some of the other solutions presented here, but had to use quite some time to make it work. And HD-crashes made the task even harder. And it seems like the PC's different components is a key issue here. Some solutions match, others don't. But this solution fitted my PC perfect. Thank You.

They say if you play a Microsoft Windows CD backwards it plays satanic messages.
That's nothing, when you play it forward it installs Windows.

Ok, I got the game to work and sound is perfect, the only problem is that movement mode is super slow.. to get it to smooth, I have to move it to about 60,000 cycles and sound starts to stutter around 28,000 cycles... any suggestions?

This is for UAKM btw.

My comp is a AMD 64 3000 laptop with an ati mobility 9600 with 1g ram.

Download the new version of Dosbox (0.70). It just came out two weeks ago and it;s MUCH faster. Make sure you have the core set to "dynamic" and then you should be able to crank up the cycles to about 40,000 comfortably.
Whow, thanks for the update on DB7! Both UKM & PD run super fast now :D

Just to let everyone know, the dosbox guide on my site has been updated to be more complete. We all recognize that there are other ways to run UAKM--but this is a non-disruptive method works the best for me on all the platforms I've tested.

ALTHOUGH, to perform due diligence, I need to swing back around and test Wintermute's installer.

I'm going back to sleep now :)
