Similar Games to Tex....
just reading some posts on the black dahlia pc game and was wondering if anyone else is having problems with playing on xp. I keep on getting mouse trails on the screen & at the start where you click new game or load new game the mouse pointer will hardly move at all. Seems to go into slow motion. My version is a windows version .
Tried a different mouse but its no help. ps2 with adaptor

no the patch I have already installed, every now & then I have another go at playing the game but can never get it going. I thought it was the mouse as the black dahlia has its own mouse files in the program, but changing it didn't make a difference. Works okay with a 98 machine even with usb mouse.I have a core 2 duo processor & even set the affinity in task manager but no hope. Set up virtual pc 2004 it has the same problems. Maybe one day someone will find a answer.
Well I have the black dahlia working under virtual pc with 98se. Not sure why it wouldn't work before .sound is a bit out of sync but most of the time its okay, mouse now works normal, at times the mouse spins you around the room a bit, does not seem to be work around for this, just have to move the mouse slightly.
Found a few more games similar to Tex Murphy that are interesting:
Ripper - A Cyberpunk Adventure Game by Take 2
http://au.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/ripper/index.html
Got very poor reviews. (I haven't played it but the concept reminds me a bit of a cross between Neuromancer(the game) and The Lawn Mower Man(Film))
The poor acting and bugs are credited with its demise.
Also it has 6discs. I'm not really interested by this one really, the Cyberspace animations look shitty.
Jhonny Mnemonic
http://www.mobygames.com/game/johnny-mn ... rId,51215/
Similar to the film of the same name. Its a C grade remake of a B grade film based on an A grade short story. Work that one out
(I haven't played this one either and unfortunately I haven't seen many screenshots but it resembles the same technology that was used in UAKM minus the whole 3D thing)
The game uses FMVs. The Film was obviously better than the game.. but the short story was even better!
Snatcher
http://www.mobygames.com/game/sega-cd/snatcher
Snatcher is a brilliant Blade Runner clone. It does feel a little bit like Tex Murphy in that it has some cool Anime style FMVs, plus you have to keep Examining things like in Tex and using objects and looking at them. Unfortunately the GUI is crap compared to UAKM. (it reminds me a lot of Martian Memorandum in that the GUI was similar as well as the graphics)
Its a really great game though but I would recommend Kojima's next project assuming the hype is true SNATCHER 2!.
Blade Runner
http://www.mobygames.com/game/blade-runner/
Blade Runner looks increadible. I totally want to play this game. From what I've heard it has a similar style to Tex Murphy but with one really awsome difference. Apparently everytime you play something is different.
The game auto generates who are the replicants and who is human, whats even cooler is that you can customise the characters life and in some instances be a replicant yourself. Its unfortunate that the ESA is a bitch about this game and won't let anyone download it, you might be able to find a copy of it online though.
Keep your eyes open. I know there are still a few we haven't found yet.

Blade Runner is great, but is almost as much choose-your-own-adventure as it is a game. A lot of the game is about choosing whose side you are on, and it has several equally valid endings. It is kind of like Pandora, with the multiple paths and endings.
Another Tex-like game is Spycraft: The Great Game. It has a lot of video sequences, and pretty good acting (with several recognizable actors and a fairly large part for former CIA director William Colby). Like the Tex games, it has a pretty complex and interesting plot.

AND former KGB-director Oleg Kalugin. Was a good game, Spycraft. Albeit I'm not a fan of the real-time action-sequences in there.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I had Blade Runner. Hated it. Still trying to remember why...it might have been the fact that the story was just a mirror of the movie...or because I spent a lot of the game just running around from location to location looking for someone I didn't talk to yet. Either way, hated it. Great voice acting, though.

I guess I never played Blade Runner because I wasn't too heavily into the movie. I remember somebody once told me that I *had* to see Blade Runner, that it was the best movie ever ...
I came away disappointed, simply because my small sized "meat bag" organic brain couldn't comprehend the concepts behind the story. It ended so abruptly, and the story elements that *were* there just didn't appeal to me. I'm a bit younger though, and of a different generation too. If a movie doesn't have whiz-bang special effects, I just can't stay intrested. Especially in a sci-fi setting. So I never did get to play Bladerunner.
I was cruising through some of my old stuff earlier this week, though, and I ran across an old copy of Silent Steel. It was an interactive movie of sorts, and actually had a familiar face or two. You were a submarine captain, and basically through A, B, C choices of dialouge you progressed through the story. I loved it when I was kid, but it seems a bit bare bones now. Thought it might be worth mentioning.

I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Blade Runner is a very good game for atmosphere and ingenuity in how the environment unfolds. The graphics at the time was also pretty amazing. However as much as the film is a classic I did find it to be a bit drawn-out/dull in places. Some of my favourite films/series are 'slow paced' so it wasn't that I don't like that kind of thing, its just when characters go on long philosophical/political monologues and so on in an attempt to punch the message through. Could be broken up a little more. I had this same feeling with some parts of the game. But overall it was a high quality and original game that did the film justice. I would reccomend the game, its worth a go if even just to immerse yourself in the atmospheric environments.
I bought it when it first came out (1997) but back then I was just a kid (12) with not much money so once I completed it I think I sold it to be able to afford more games (I regret doing that with alot of my games now). But recently I bought it on e-Bay, haven't had chance to try it out though with all the Uni work I have now (hope it even works).

I'm playing Hotel Dusk on the Nintendo DS right now. Definitely a must have for a Tex Murphy fan.
