MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS Harry Potter HBP discussions

I just finished it up and wondered if anyone wanted to discuss it. I will try not to disclose secrets BUT don't scroll down unless you've read it. I know how much it sucks to find out the good stuff prematurely. Someone told me the 6th sense secret beforehand, and I nearly punched him in the face. So scroll down at YOUR OWN RISK !!!!!!!

So I can't say that I was too suprised at the ending based on current events. I was however very upset at "The half Blood Prince" I felt that the reveal wasn't worth the richness of the back story. I had hoped secretly that the text belonged to HWMNBN'd. That Harry's connection and emotional attachment to the book might cloud or waver his judgement about it's (who I hoped it would be) owner.
Alas, much dissapointment with that.
And that Harry is not afforded the luxury of the reward of something he wanted so much. Cruel.

And of course, the idea that the last book might be vastly different from the rest based on the uncertain future and the loss. Hmm???

I was pleased that it was a much more managable length than Goblet of Fire. I feared she was becoming "King" like.
It seems much more for the teen crowd, I noticed a word or two of language I did not expect. I believe reading the word "slut" popped me right out of the story.

So, I'm looking forward to discussion with others who've read it, if they'd like to.

Cheers!
Jen

I am interested, Jen. Tell more.

Alex Bark.
I finished it Sunday morning over here.

I just thought the end of the book seemed really rushed, kind of from the cave onwards.

While the big twist at the end was shocking, the whole Half Blood Prince thing seemed resolved as an afterthought.

Because of certain alleged alliegences (heh, now that's cool alliteration!), i'll be looking forward to the final book. I just hope Rowling takes her time on it cause as i said, the end of this really felt rushed. ^^

Yes, I agree. I thought the cave scene was excellent, the drinking.... ah, broke my heart, and to find out it kinda was for naught.... :(

Yes, I think that the last one.... take your time, make it good. I mean telling the difference from 17 yr old from a 19 yr old, not as drastic from 14-16. I think the current actors can pull of the movie even if it's delayed an extra year.

Half blood prince being who it was...... biggest disapointment. What a let down.

But STILL a good book.

Jen! Are you on-line? Let's talk about Tex, if you don't mind.

The ending didn't surprise me too much. I had already predicted two things would happen before I read the book.

1. The Dumbledore thing at the end (for those who haven't read)
2. Harry and Ginny (Or maybe as the only redhead girl, I was biased on this decision)

The one thing that really bothered me was that she actually used the word 'ejaculated'.

Shouted, or yelled...or screamed....or said loudly would have all serviced better than, "Harry ejaculated."
My blog:

but Watson ejaculated words all the time in Sherlock Holmes' adventures!

It's just the word has a rather negative connotation in modern usage.
My bet? Harry ends up being the final horcrux and kills himself...

Snape is good by the way. Must be...
Just finished reading this morning, loved it... the end of the harry ginny thing annoyed me, but hopefully that will be resolved in the next one :)

As for dumbledore? Very sad, but as soon as I heard that a character was going to die, i knew it would be him. Will be interesting how a book not set at the school will pan out.
*BIG SPOILER ALERT*

Well when the book went to print, JK Rowling said on her website that the half blood prince wouldn't be harry voldemort or neville. I didn't guess who it would be but the moment I knew I thought it silly of me not to have worked it out sooner.

JKR also said that this book would be most similar to the second. I couldn't see why when she announced that but on reading the book its obvious.

I still think that Snape is good. Dumbledore was dying anyway, Snape was in front of four death eaters and Malfoy. What could he do but ease Dumbledore's passing? He didn't kill Harry when he had the chance and he hardly harmed him. I hope he will come good in the end because I liked him.

But I also think that Harry is the last horcrux. maybe there are seven? Maybe that's why voldemort then lost his body or maybe he's gryffindor's horcrux. Any views?

The last book is supposed to be the longest yet, but then there will be a lot to cover. Just a shame that there's such a long wait.
