A pretty good article about a guy who is looking back fondly at FMV games. A good mention of Tex which is pretty fun.

I also look back fondly on FMV games. I think they add a level of texture, immediacy, and interest that CGI cannot. Yes, I understand that it's prohibitively expensive now. . .but wasn't it expensive in the 90's? Why can't it be done now? Is it really that economically unfeasible?
Oh ,well, I can wax nostalgic, can't I? I really miss it.

Never too late for coffee, never too early for beer.
Yeah. FMV does have a nostalgic quality to it. I love The 7th Guest and 11th Hour more for their cheezy FMV than the gameplay (which while not bad, was not good).
The only good FMV i remember are of course the Tex Murphy ones, the Command & Conquer games, Wing Commander 3 and 4, and possibly Gabriel Knight 2.
That being said, i want to play the 2 Phantasmagoria games (for something bad) and Black Dahlia (which i hear is really good).

When playing games with FMV, it was always a huge rewarding buzz to reach a FMV scene! Always felt that way...
What dissapoints me about todays games is their lack of impact, especially in their endings. I mean, considering UAKM was the first PC game I ever played it kind of set the bar extremely high in terms of game endings.
Lets take HL2 for example, potential for a GREAT ending, but instead we have that frikken Gman just walking out an invisible door! Who gives a rats if it is part of some intrictate plotline that I am supposed to appreciate... I want a reward for my hours of play dammit!!!! To be fair the Doom3 ending sucked major ass too (no pun intended).

Man i know what you mean Cubase.
I haven't been happy with an ending in a game that wasn't an adventure game or rpg since Ocarina of Time on the N64.
I think one of my professors put an interesting idea forth on that notion though. Can any ending really live up to the excellent gameplay experience you've just put yourself through? This was in relation to Super Mario 64 though.
As i said, i think the narrative heavy genres are a little different cause they focus on their narratives more than the gameplay, but still, they can have endings that are bad or simply lacking (Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy anyone?).
