On my way...

...to visit my Mecca - San Francisco! That's right - I've been planning this trip for the past six months and finally the day has arrived! I arrive there this coming Saturday and return the eleven days later. It's gonna be a blast - I've only been there once before as a thirteen year old with my parents. I remember having them take me to see Coit Tower, since I was positive I could find my way to the Ritz from there. But nooooo. Nothing but trees over there. And that's about all I remember from SF. But this time is different. This time I'm doing things my way, living on my terms. I can't wait  I'm basically going to absorb the essence of that what is San Francisco. Whether this experience confirms or disproves my current feelings towards this city, I will nonetheless have gotten this urge to visit this what I now consider a sacred place out of my system once and for all!

Does anyone who's been there have any recommendations of things to do, or places to visit? I know very little of it besides what I've seen in movies and on tv.

"I've always wanted to go see what TV looks like elsewhere" :D

But seriously, stay away from the hookah and you might get around to see the sights *evil laughter*

I'm going there some time. When I have the opportunity.

I've never been outta Scandinavia, I need to go visit places :D

Have a nice trip!

Indeed, have fun!

My suggestion for sight seeing is that curvy road that goes down the hill the loooong way. I think they have more than one, but I always wanted to drive down that ... very fast, with no traffic.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
That "curvy road" is none other than the "Lombard Street" of Pandora fame. The game-makers used it to metaphorically describe the type of choices that are neither goody-two-shoes nor corrupt and self-centered, the kind that swerves back and forth between the two. Just for your info!

That picture from rockefeller. . .I don't know. . .it's kind of scary!
Never too late for coffee, never too early for beer.
Yeah, kind of late 80's slasher-flick-ish. Like there's a girl in an off-white satin nightgown about to turn around, ruffle her massive hairdo and turn off the lights, as slowly, but surely, the bathroom door opens and a pair of evil-looking eyes glint in the city-lights and a massive machete is shown to appear and THEN!!

QUEUE THE EVIL SCARY MUSIC!! DAH-DAH-DAAAAH!!

She swirls around on her heels and puts her hands to her mouth in a terrified SHRIEK and BAM!! Bloodspatter on the wall and another shriek and WHAM! More spatter!

The camera is now outside the apartment, slowly panning away from the windows and out on the town as the screams fade away...

Meanwhile, two blocks away, Officer Bob Heshley and Sergeant Joe McIntyre are patronizing a booth at the mom and pop diner during the dead hot middle of their beat. Normally, Sergeant McIntyre would not be patrolling with Heshley; yet tonight, something is different.

A serial killer is on the loose in the city, and Officer Heshley has been assigned as a senior patrol officer to work alongside Sergeant McIntyre in the investigation.

Officer Heshley crams a juicy, grease filled fry into a glob of ketchup; devouring it lazily, yet with determination, he turns to his patrol partner. "You know, this city is so eighties slasher-movie-ish..."

Sgt. McIntyre looks up from his coffee cup. "What the hell you talkin' about?!"

Heshley shrugs. "This town just gets rougher every year."

McIntyre puts down his coffee cup. "What the hell ARE you talkin' about?!"

Heshley pokes a fry with his finger. "In this town the wind blows cold, and the only thing you can count on is that you can't count on anything..."

The Sergeant opens his mouth, as if to make a response, yet he is interrupted by his radio.

"...PD to 91852...we have a 666 in sector 2...what is your 20? Repeat...PD to 91852...we have a 666 in sector 2...what is your 20?"

"Ah hell..." McIntyre mutters.

He responds, and within two minutes, Officer Heshley and Sergeant McIntyre are on their way out of the diner, into the cruiser, and on their way to the next victim of the serial killer.

That curvy Lombard Street also known as the Crookedest Street in San Francisco is really cool. I never got to go there really up close but I have passed by it a few times.

I went to San Francisco in March of 2003 - a trip I will never forget. It's a great city with some awesome sights. I got to experience both Coit Tower, Alcatraz and I even went to Lou(ie)'s Diner which was quite close to Union Square as far as I remember.

I remember I went for a bike ride across the Golden Gate bridge and up in the hills of Oakland where my buddies and I rode all the way to the top leaving us with an awesome view over the bridge and the city. We then went to the Point Bonita lighthouse and from there we rode to the little city of Sausalito (beautiful city) before riding back up the hill to Golden Gate and back to the Fisherman's Wharf where we rented the bikes. A ride that I wouldn't be without - I really got to see the nature around the city in a whole new perspective than usual.

Cool view btw. :)

Just took a trip down Lombard today, and did a nice little walk up to Coit yesterday evening before checking out the awesome and overly pricey Scoma's fish restaurant by pier 42. Today we rented a car and drove out to Tiburon where we're going to stay the next three days. The view of the city and the Golden Gate from here is incredible. I'll see if I can catch a few shots and upload them later on. Well, until next time...

My golly the view of the city from Tiburon is a beaut! The Golden gate, The TransAm Building, Coit Tower, all at once! The fog rolling up behind the city with an ominous red glow. I get chills. I had to create this for you all - a gift of sorts. I just stitched together a bunch of night photos I took of this view earlier to create a panorama of this gorgeous view. I'll post a miniature here below, and add a link to the large version so I don't give the forum stretchmarks (it's huuge). I hope you like it :)
