Going to see the Music of John Williams!

I am so excited... just recently bought tickets to see The Music Of John Williams presented by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House in late November!

The Orchestra is being conducted by Arnie Roth, who conducted the Play! Video Game Symphony (which I also went to back in July).

It's goign to be so awesome! A-reserve, Smack back centre of the concert hall, Row J!

I was very disappointed I missed out when they had this concert 3 years ago, and am so happy they have deicded to host it again.

Well, "see" is a perfectly valid verb considering the orchestra itself is a visual spectacle. :P

You will have an INCREDIBLE time. I went to something similar a few years ago. It was a Lord of the Rings symphony.

I can see what you mean when I read about what you are about to hear. But I am neither here nor there, for all you know I have an interpreter sitting next to me who is reading this out so perhaps there's an act of seeing and hearing happening....ok i'll stop playing the Ridler :D

No, in all seriousness, that would be awesome. Are they also going to perform some scores from the recent Star Wars films or are they keeping it classic?
Seeing - and hearing - a live concert is usually quite rewarding. Example: My wife and her friend went to see Yanni several years ago. She told me it was fantastic. So, when he visited again about two years ago I bought tickets and took my wife. WOW! Incredible! Unbelievable! Fantastic! It was the greatest live show I've ever seen AND, if he comes back, we will see it again.

Jen - Diane and I saw the LOTR symphony as well. Extremely entertaining. Besides 3 great movies, I found the soundtracks to be equally mesmerizing.

John Williams - Star Wars, et al. It should prove to be most uplifting. Enjoy, Cub.

Are you guys kiddin'? The whole second half of the concert is dedicated to Star Wars!

I am also looking forward to Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman, Hook, Jurassic Park, Home Alone and Harry Potter!

I remember watching Jerry Goldsmith in concert here in SLC, conducting his own works with a little introduction to each piece. The end title cue from 'Alien' was the first time I ever got goosebumps at a concert. Man, those guys are good! You should be in for a treat. (Makes me want to go to the movies again).

Earlier this summer my wife, son, and I went to a similar concert in Cincinnati to hear the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra play the music of John Williams. Star Wars, Schindler's List, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was great. A neat family experience.

Undoubtedly the best cinematic composer of our time. Though Danny Elfman and Howard Shore aren't too bad, but I am SO jealous. Have a great time

I think that maybe you are so excited about the concert, you forgot to turn your sense of humor on.

My sense of humour is on holiday actually. It neded a break after all those pranks I played on my workmates.

Thats awesome. And what a lineup! Home Alone has some really magical and inspired music thats overlooked, nice to see that on the list.

Wish I could be going too, any idea if its a tour that will be hitting UK shores?
Its so rare to get to see such music performed live by an orchestra outside of a film recording studio.

Recently I went to see Birmingham Symphony Orchestra doing a Sci Fi concert. They played Star Wars, Superman, Spiderman, The Planets, E.T., Thunderbirds, Space Odyssey, Doctor Who (and a bit of other things such as Indiana Jones thrown in, possibly Lord of the Rings too can't remember) etc. It was very cool and pretty fun in places.
( My seat was a bit cramped though -_-; )

And I hope the "Play!" concert comes to near me sometime in the UK. I did go to see Video Games Live which is a similar thing when that hit the UK briefly.

Hopefully more concerts like these become commonplace, I'd love more opportunities to hear full orchestras play film, tv and computer game music.
