Tex the Movie ...
A big budget science fiction detective story starring a complete unknown (Chris Jones) as the lead and another unknown as the lead actress (Suzanne Barnes)? I doubt there would be a production company willing to put good money into it. Unfortunately, I doubt any of the actors from the video game will be there on the big screen.
As for the storyline, it might be best to have a new, original one developed for the screen. UaKM and Pandora worked well in a video game setting, and the radio theatre for the medium it was in. How well they translate to the big screen, well, that might not be so easy.
All I have to say is don't let Uwe Boll get a hold of the rights. Anything but that. Anything! He's already pooped on a "House of the Dead" movie and the "Alone in the Dark" movie, not to mention the upcoming pile of poop being the "Bloodrayne" movie. If he gets a hold of it, he'll twist Tex Murphy into a pile of poop! Poop!

Well, I have to say the entire thing sounds completely impractical to me, no matter how much I would like to see it happen.
The Tex Murphy franchise is not anywhere near those of Halo, Max Payne, Hitman, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider (all put and/or planned into movies), etc. I mean, let's be honest here for a second, how many people actually know about the TM franchise? Sure, there are hardcore adventure gamers out there who love the series, but how many people are those? Not many. TM is not exactly mainstream, nor is it a casual series and thank God for that, but non-mainstream material has no chance of being turned into a big production film. No chance at all.
But, theoretically speaking of course, if something like that were to happen, God willing, I'd of course like to see the original cast of the game series, but there's only one actor that is irreplaceable for the series and that is Chris Jones. Regarding the story, well, of course it will have to follow the games loosely, with a much deeper sense of Sci-Fi and a dystopian future (kinda like Blade Runner, Brazil or Total Recall), it cannot be action-oriented in any way, but more film-noiric in style. Kinda like a 1940's film-noir turned into a futuristic crime thriller.
But that's all theory, I'd be glad to see a book, a game, a radio theater show, anything related to Tex. The movie can wait...

I'm telling you. If I have to settle for Tex Trivia napkins, then that will have to do.
I would love to see a movie with the cast from the games, but what draw would that have? It would need a big star, and I see no role in which I would surplant any member of the Tex gang with for any star. Well, maybe if Tex was played by me, then that would be okay. But, other than that, I wouldn't want the cast to be any different. And, I feel, most of you probably feel the same way.

LoL As well.
I agree whole heartedly that Uwe needs to be kept as far away from any movie as possible, Tex or otherwise. House of the Dead was laughable, and I didn't even know Alone in the Dark had been released. Terrible, terrible directed. Anyone who saw House of the Dead, all I have to say is: 360 pan shots.
Who should play Tex? Obviously the #1 is CJ, but that notwithstanding, I think maybe Bill Pullman would be good. I've said this for years, though. I like the idea of Judge Rheinhold too--somebody mentioned that in the past and I thought it was good.

As it turns out, Bill Pullman already played a character similar to Tex; a detective, hopeless in casual life, but a detective genius. The movie was "The Zero Effect", also starred Ben Stiller (Non-comedic role), and was really cool.
As for Bruce Willis...he shouldn't get the part for the same reason as Chris Jones. They're getting old, Bruce more so than Chris. He's fifty. And, while he plays a great detective, Tex isn't Hartigen. There are better choices.
Although, perhaps Bruce as the Chameleon? Eh?
My pick for Tex was (on the old board) and is Edward Norton.

I have always thought that Noah Wylie (E.R.) would make a great alternate Tex, in lieu of Chris Jones.

It is one of those things you would like, but like has been said already CJ and SB are not hollywood hot topics, so substituting our favourites would feel weird, granted James Noah Wylie is a good likeness, but its the voice as well.
CJ brings life to the character as was apparent in the Radio Theatre episodes (which I loved...they rock)
So I would still want a game, over a movie. The game would probably be CGI with voice overs, but hey the RT episodes worked so whats wrong with a bit CGI as long as CJ is involved

Hell kicked me out and Heaven won't let me in
so I am stuck here to wreak havoc on you all.
Because I am the disturbed one

True, CJ's voice is a HUGE part of Tex's character, but if we're talking strictly about alternatives (in the case of a Hollywood feature, if CJ was not filling the sneakers) then I think likeness plays a greater role. Tex's personality and voice would be upon the chosen actor's shoulders to emulate and/or approximate, which is a big part of being an actor in the first place.
