Quick question

Some of my friends will send cute pics of animals or other figures dancing, jumping, playing, etc. When I save them to My Pictures and bring them up later, there isn't any movement. Is there a way to save these pics and still keep the animation? Keep in mind that I am computer ill-literate, so give details.

The images are animated GIF files, and when you normally double click on an image such as a GIF (or a JPEG, BMP, etc.) it will open in the defaulted software package to display them, and sometimes this image viewer will not play the animation of a GIF file (such as Windows Picture and Fax viewer, which is default on XP). Don't know why, they just don't.

In order to view animated GIF images as they were (with animation and all), the quickest way is to right click on the file (instead of opening it) and select 'Open With...' and from the list select Internet Explorer.

They should display fine there.

There are other ways to do it, but this way is quick and easy and requires nothing more than a different apporach... just the way I like it!

Did the above solution (greatly written by Cub) work for you then JTOG?
Just incase it didnt or others have this problem. You may want to double check that it really did save as a .GIF file and not a .BMP. I noticed that (at least with Internet Explorer, not had this happen with Firefox) if the cache gets clogged up/overloaded there's some kind of glitch in IE that can happen where it won't save animated files properly and instead saves them as single-image BMPs.
If this is the case then just go to Tools > Internet Options (or similar) and Clear your Temporary Internet Files/Cache etc. then resave the image.

Thanks for the additional tips, Sai. Much appreciated.
