Bored? Check Out My New Office . . . and Game Collection

Hey guys, it's been a tad dry at the ol' board as of late so I thought I'd snap a few pics and show you guys my snazzy new office . . . in a 100 year old house. But new to me and that's what's important. Anyway this has become ply place of relaxation and zen. People have taken to calling it the "toy room" and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Sorry about the blurring of certain photos but I am sure you don't wanna check out family who don't wanna be seen and confidential paperwork. Lemme if you find Tex in the shots I couldn't find him before posting this.

That is so cool. Hey can you tell me how you build that MAME machine?

My god!

How the heck?

Where do you live? Can I pop in and go nuts on all those gaming systems!

Seriously man, that's one of the best collections of retro gaming memorabilia I have ever seen.

But why on earth are the Tex Murphy games tucked behind a speaker, huh!?

Actually if you really look you will spot MINT condition boxes of UAKM, Pandora, and Overseer. They are tucked away because I want them preserved from light, scratches and whatnot. The games themselves are always beside my computer waiting for when I need a Tex fix.

The Mame machine I made back in the summer of 2001. It consists of an old computer, Mame 32 and a whack of games installed on it. I built it long before there was a huge surge of guys my age and older building them for nostalgia. It was only supposed to be a temporary machine as I was gonna build the good/pretty one after I figured out how to do it. Since these days of low $$$ I have to make due with the old machine. I actually salvaged the cabinet from an old Space Invaders II cabinet. The guy I bought it off was JUST chopping it up and using it for heat as I got there so he sold it to me for $6. (It's Canada, it gets cold sometimes.) Anyway I painted it up and put my guts into it and it has run good ever since. Actually another funny story. When I was moving it from one end of the city to the other I asked my cousin if it'd be safe in the back of his truck. I was worried that it might fall over seeing as the top of it would act like a wing. To which my cousin replied, "yeah yeah, it'll be fine" Sure enough just as we hit highway speeds we were treated to the sight of an arcade machine lifting straight out of the truck and tumbling down the highway. To be fair he was right it didn't tip over. (I took out the computer parts for the move, relax.)

Cub, you sure can drop by. Lemme know when you're in this part of Canada and I am sure we could have a game day. We're in the middle of a bitter cold winter right now so it'd be perfect. However I seem to recall that you reside in Australia so I'll just wait until you get here before I put the hot chocolate on. Mebbe when you get here we could take in a film festival too. They're peppered all over around here so depending on when you decide to come I am sure we could find one. (Not actually holding you to coming here, but it's a thought. Oh if you do ever come to Canada in winter there is NOTHING in Australia (so I am told) that you can buy that is warm enough. Just wait until you're here to buy your gear.) FYI it has warmed up to -18C as I write this so it's not as bad as it was.

Oh yeah and if anyone is wondering yes those used to be jewelery cases. I got them from an old job after they went under after I stopped working there. Apparently I was the last one to bring a profit there which is surprising considering I half assed that job like no ones business. (I HATE forcing sales)
Thanks for the hospitality Stu! I've always planned on taking a holiday to Canada, and I don't mind a winter holiday as I love Skiiing, and I hear there is plenty of that over there. I always make an effort to try and visit my international buddies when on holidays... so I might hold you to it, in due time that is.

I am impressed! Pretty soon you'll be able to open your own store.
