Installing games in DOSBox?
I just finished playing Uakm and Pandora in DOSBox, and now I want to play other DOS games from DOSBox, but I'm not sure how to install them? Do I install them to C:\ drive from XP and then open DOSBox to run them? Or, do I need to install them from DOSBox, and if so, how do I do that?
When I played UAKM and Pandora I downloaded everything from Nilo's website, which worked-out great. And both folders (UAKM and Pandora) were put on my C:\ drive. But, I didn't have to install them when I downloaded them from NIlo's website. So, I'm a little confused as to how I should install my other DOS games? Can anybody lend a suggestion, please!
Thank you,
Cindy

I know that for my uakm and pandora games...I have two different dosbox prompts installed so that when I open them, they automatically go to those two games...I'm guessing that if you want to play other games, you would have to install another dosbox window, then put the cd of the game in your cd-rom drive, then open up dosbox and run your install from that dosbox prompt.

I don't think you need to go through the trouble of installing multi Dosbox programs...
You said you used everything on Nilo's Website... My suggestion would be to go back to his website and email him... His knowledge is astounding in these matters...

Indeed, you do not have to install multiple copies of DOSBox. DOSBox uses a configuration file named "dosbox.conf" to set up an emulated DOS environment. Ideally you should create a seperate configuration file for the individual requirements of each game. As an example, "Under A Killing Moon" could be uakm.conf while "The Pandora Directive" could be pandora.conf. Then you would create individual shortcuts like:I don't think you need to go through the trouble of installing multi Dosbox programs...
"C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.exe" -conf "C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\uakm.conf"
and
"C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.exe" -conf "C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\pandora.conf"

Anyhow Cindy, since you did not mention which game/games you would like to install...this is general guideline based on the the files you downloaded from "Nilo's Place"
Insert the game disc into your CD/DVD Drive.
Go to your Start Menu, locate and open "DOSBox"
You should now be at the C:\ prompt in DOSBox
Type "D:\INSTALL" then press <Enter>
Note: Nilo's "dosbox.conf" automatically tries to mount your CD/DVD drives as "D:" and "E:"
This should bring up the game's installation program for you to complete. Pay close attention to the directory it installs to (C:\GAMENAME). It should also mention what to type to start the game (GAMENAME).
Type "exit" then press <Enter> to close DOSBox
The next time you open DOSBox
Type "cd GAMENAME" then press <Enter>, to go to the directory the game installed (C:\GAMENAME)
Type "GAMENAME" then press <Enter>, to start the game
Regards
A sansGUI interface is one that does not have the small features called "Windows". The term comes from the French word sans, meaning "without".
SansGUI's are more typically used in Unix-like Operating Systems. The conventional wisdom is that a GUI (Grapical User Interface) help guide the casual computer user to perform routine tasks with Point and Click simplicity. SansGUI's have acquired considerable acceptance for users accustomed to the CLI (Command Line Interface).

Those Config files are easily gotten on Nilo's site... He's already taken care of making them along with Txt files with very easy to follow instructions...
San, you and Nilo should get together along with Cub, the 3 of you could probably damn near get us a 6th Tex just about ready for release...

We wish
We could probably do a pretty good Commemorative Edition though.

You guys could offer your programing skills as a Donation and if they respect you enough for that, after they've gotten profits they donate a little something back to you... All they need to do is shoot the video needed for the game...
I have some acting talent, which somewhere on this message board I've already offered for next to nothing... I would need a place to stay, transportation, and a food allowance, but as for actually paying me, I'd take points on the back end, so to speak...
If we could get enough actors and programmers to do something along those lines, the estimated budget for the game could be chopped down quite a bit I think... Probably not enough for the Power Wanna Bes to waver in their decision though...
