I think FMV still has its place in some areas.Missing: Since January did a nice job of incorporating FMV by including it as part of the story (video actually taken by the journalist).
There's another angle to look at: marketing. Should Tex return we'd like to see it be successful so that other Tex games will follow. If it's an FMV game and if the words "Interactive Movie" are but uttered once, then a large portion of the gaming audience will be turned off without even looking at it. There is a notoriety about these sorts of games that have become a marketing nightmare and they just don't sell well (hence, the downfall of adventure games).
CGI is, simply, the better investment... and will be more versatile in the long run should Tex continue for another 10 or 20 years.

I agree with someone who said that they would take Tex any way it was served to us. I mean when I heard Tex's voice on the first TMRT, I got chills cause I haven't heard that voice in years. I think we should be careful, also, about this whole ultimatum thing. If a video game company just hiard a employe, and suddenly they start getting these e-mails demanding that a new game of the Tex franshise be made a certain way, I don't think that would be very well recevied. I do agree with Jen, however that we have no say in how this game will be made. We don't pay the bill. Although she used some profanity to get her point across, I think that it made us all stop and think about it twice before we started to do something drastic like sending e-mails and the like. AC and the whole Indie cerw are working on another game. And if they get a petition sent to them about something that (at least I don't think) they are thinking about right now, then I don't think that their reaction would play in our favor. I think we should all sit tight. Honestly, I'm excited about ACs new game, and I would go out and buy it just because I love his writing. All we should do now is wait. If AC tells us "Go for it, start the petition." then do it. But I think we should wait on him. Thats my two cents. Later.

Thanks Sowden, greendender, and others who have so kindly endured my rant.
I will say though for the record, I did not "technically" use profanity. The spirit was there, but as I want no one, (including myself) to be kicked/banned, I let imaginations fill in the blanks.
You're right Sowden, I'll buy anything that's got Aaron's name on it. I want his projects to be successful.... same with Chris Jones. Their successes bring our hope a little closer to light.
Night all.

edit... whoops I did say hell. Bad me.

Aaron has already answered the topic of Tex in FMV in the future though here.
I will honestly admit it'd be great for it to be FMV as my experiences with FMV games were almost all good back in those days (Tex, Black Dahlia, gabriel Knight 2 etc.) and also probably because this is how I'm used to experiencing the world of Tex but computer graphics have come a long way and if the voices were the same I think it'd be great. It would just be experiencing the Tex world in a new way as long as its done well which Aaron has always said he would do. Once you're caught up in the story and characters it will be fun. Today graphics/appearance are too much the forefront sometimes and Tex games always had fantastic story so I don't think it will matter in the long run. Anything that would tell the rest of the story of Tex within the realms of possibility is a good thing I think. So I'm ready for anything that's possible even if it's an interactive audio game etc. A Tex console game certainly wouldn't be "an easy way out" though because if it were, it would have been made years ago, instead it's been a struggle (and still is). So it'd be fantastic if we were to receive one.
At the end of the day, I think it's amazing how Aaron and the team have carried on regardless with the Tex world and the radio Theatre is truly a gift to loyal fans. It'd be simply be wonderful for their efforts to finally see the Tex world come to light again in some form and be well-received. :D I wish them all the best and look forward to whatever comes.
I think if you truly wanted to make FMV happen, your campaign shouldn't be directed at a little community (here) or an individual (Aaron) though. Because the problem is on a much larger scale that spans far from outside of anyones control here and especially Aaron's I imagine. I remember participating in a "FMV Games" thread on a games forum a while ago and whilst some people could mention games that they had good experiences with (e.g. Gabriel Knight 2 etc.) the majority of people had experienced games with bad acting, poor storylines, basic gameplay and so on. This totally put them off such games and I guess this contribuetd to the genres downfall which is a shame. And Aaron seems to recognise that this happened (as he says a lot of the other games at the time trying the same thing weren't up to standard). Almost everyone here has had good experience with FMV games (Tex!) so this isn't really the place. Try those places where the opinion is sour due to bad experiences. But honestly I think it'll take a FMV game becoming widely popular to truly change general opinion.
Just my 2 pennies, all the best.

Well, personally I enjoyed Overseer
But I can only speak for myself
I know that others have mentioned negative aspects too. The "To Be Continued..." is just a reminder of what was to be instore back in those days, until the plan fell through
An unfortunate oversight.
Since it's been many years with the Tex universe in the dark, I don't know if revived there would be room to take many chances and try and break (apparently) popular opinion on the whole FMV front sadly in terms of the Tex range individually (after all, at the end of the day, profit has to be made. I think its interesting how as fans we don't need to worry technically but unfortunately the company and creators have to take issue with that or it'd be painful sadly). And for me, although you're entitled to think otherwise naturally, something is better than nothing. But if you focus your campaign on a company or community in a better position to take risks I think that'd be good. Then when the market changes the chances would be better for other series (like Tex) pushed aside (without funding and other essential support aspects to get them off the ground) to take things up again due to there being a bigger playerbase.
Although I like Overseer, just for the point of disucssion if it were the consensus that it was a stepback in terms of quality after the previous games, I think there were probably worse offenders at the time that really did drag the market down. Overseer was pretty entertaining overall, perhaps when scrutinised it has flaws but whilst intiially engrossed on first play it is great. But there were other FMV games at the time which even on first play had glaring flaws I imagine.
My experiences were almost all great but I remember one FMV game (can't name it) I played which was pretty dull. I didn't care about the character I was to play because the narrative didn't really develop that character well, the acting was OK but the people weren't very memorable, the gameplay was just clicking around, and I finished it all pretty quickly, the ending also wasn't very thrilling. If that was my first experience of an FMV game and I wasn't forgiving/open-minded, I guess it would of affected judgement of other games. So I still think the bigger picture is outside of the Tex-range.
Just my 2 pennies, so that makes 4 pennies. Don't spend it all in one place
