Recent Games You've Played or Questions You Have...

Okay, I wanted a thread where one person who was thinking of buying a game could go and post a question or a couple of questions about it, and if other people in the community have played it, they could give a heads up to the others about whether or not it's worth the money... Something like the Movie Thread we have going...

And since I wanted a thread like that, apparently I'm thinking of buying a game...

I went out looking for a New Computer chair, but while I was at Best Buy I looked around their games and I came across something called Culpa Innata, it's for the PC...
Anyone know anything about this game??? Have any of you played it??? Is it worth the 30 bucks or should I try to find it cheaper??? Not that money is the issue, it's the principle behind it, if it isn't worth the money, no sense in giving it to the company, right... Does it stimulate the mind to play???

I did find the website, with a trailer, but that doesn't always give you the answers you need/want...

http://www.culpainnata.com/

Doesn't require a very powerful computer to run it, so it's not as high end as something like Gray Matter is going to be, but it sure looks interesting enough...
Just thought I'd ask if anyone else had played it, before I go and purchase it...

From what I read from reviews it has clanky movements, an overly complex story and poor animation of faces and hands. That's the bad stuff.

Apparently the good stuff is, the story it does have is pretty goddamn good. More than that I do not remember at this time.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I don't know anything about the game, except that you shouldn't go paying 30 dollars for it. Get it on Steam for 20.

Thanks Fred, I can deal with the facial movements being a little on the poor side if the Story makes up for it...
Anyone know about the Gameplay involvement from the character??? Is it more like a Tex game or more like a Halo game, maybe somewhere in between???

So it's not worth 30, I didn't think it was, I'm going to check out eBay and other places... I've never used Steam... I just checked it out, so you just download the game as apposed to using a CD/DVD... I might have to give that a go... Thanks for that Pizza...

Yeah, if you don't mind running your games through their client it is really nice. Once you have a game to your name you never lose it. Even if you have to do a quick reformat you just log in and download it again. Personally if a PC game doesn't come out on Steam I don't even want to get it.

Hey Baf I wrote a review on Culpa Innata a couple of months back. Since it´s in german it won´t help you much but I can share some thoughts about it.
I gave it 74 %
But I have to add that this was one of the hardest decisions when it comes to the final verdict.
Culpa Innata is a very unusual game . It is really loooooong and there is a lot of freedom for the player. You can finish the game in 18 Days ( not real days of course  ) or you can finish it in 30, it depends on the way you play the game. Most of the stuff does not have to be done on a certain day, it´s pretty much up to you, but certain events trigger the main plot to go on. This futuristic world is really big and fascinating and the freedom you´ve got as a player really brings this utopian ( or dystopian) world to life. So far so good BUT... There is nearly no tension elements in the story ( only in the beginning and towards the end - well at least kind of), the maincharacter is slightly annoying and is acting in ways that are simply far away from any kind of logic. If Culpa would have had good authors it could have been a really good game but trust me the story is WEAK, without highlights, that is especially sad because the game is so long and you keep hoping there´ll be some real tension or good storytwists towards the end but I waited for that forever.
The reason that the game still got 74% is that this futuristic world still was really fascinating and it made you- as the consumer- think a lot about moral and ethic issues, and then there is the freedom of actions. I think its worth a look but don´t expect a thrilling story.
If you want an adventure game with a good story and a great maincharacter go and buy Overclocked which has just been released in the USA. It was released in Germany last october and won quite some awards over here. Beside that the german author- and the Boss of the development team House of tales- that wrote Overclocked - Martin Ganteföhr- is a great guy and he knows what he is doing. You can watch the english trailer here:
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/3183.html

But if you´re still interested in Culpa,
I´ll give you the hardware recommandations from the game´s package:

PIII or Athlon Prozessor 1GHz
512 MB RAM
Geforce 3 TI/ Radeon 8500 64MB VBRAM
2x DVD Drive
3.8 GB Harddisk
Direct X 9.0
Windows 2000/XP/Vista

These are the hardware recommendations for Overclocked:
Windows 2000/XP/Vista
1.3GHz CPU
1.5GB Harddisk
256MB RAM (Windows 2000 / XP) 512MB RAM (Windows Vista)
DirecttX 9.0c
DVD-Rom
Thank you much... I just won an Auction for Culpa on eBay for 15 bucks, so I'm not out a lot of money if I end up not liking it...

Will check out Overclocked a little before I commit to it... Have you played it???

Why does Germany seem to get a lot of stuff so early??? lol

Yes I have played Overclocked and I liked it a lot.
There´s not that many riddles or classical adventure puzzles in it, the main focus is really on the maincharacter and the story. The maincharacter David McNamara has huge personal problems and he´s really on the edge of insanity while at the same time he has to solve the hardest case in his therapist career. Especially these personal problems add a lot of depth to the game that I have missed after the Gabriel Knight and Tex Murphy games.
The reason why many games are released in Germany much earlier is that we really have a market for adventuregames despite the circumstance that most of the big adventure publishers are from germany these days. Nearly all of the upcoming hits ( Gray matter, A vampyre story , Secret files2, Mata Hari) etc. are published by german publishers.
Over here adventures are anything but dead, each year a LOT of adventures get published and it´s getting more and more. A lot of these games probably don´t even find their way to the american market. Don´t get me wrong adventures still don´t sell nearly as good as other genres but there is a stable market for them over here that has established in the last 4 or 5 years. Unfortunately I keep on hearing that the american market is a whole different issue. But I hope that games like A vampyre story and Gray matter can resurect the american adventure market as well. I think the adventurefuture doesen´t look too bad , just wait and see maybe in a couple of years the german wave might have swapped over to the USA.
Sounds like it is kind of like Puzzle of Flesh, the main character being on the edge of insanity...

I will definitely look into it though... Thanks for the heads up on both games...

It´s actually a lot different, there are no horror elements in Overclocked.
But now that you bring on a puzzle of flesh, this really brings back some memorys.
I still think its a great great game ( even though the majority of people is bashing it, but who cares  )
I was like 15 when PhantasmagoriaII was released, about a year before I completely fell in love with FMV adventures because of Gabriel Knight II and some months after that I bought Pandora and UAKM. So i read a review of PII again and again and again and was so stoked- I knew that I needed that game and went to to some local computerstores- None of them wanted to sell it to me because it had 2 HUGE Rated 18 stickers on it and the whole package looked like a pretty violent game. So I asked my best friend who - already at the age of 15- was extremely tall. So I gave him the cash sent him to one of the stores , waited impatiently till he came out with the game- Wow at that moment I was the happiest guy in the world
Then I always had to be careful that my parents wouln´t see me play that game and wow what a blast I had with that game. It wasn´t GK2 or Tex but hey it was awesome, yeah those were the days ( At least there still was FMV). :D
Yeah you had to be 18 to buy that because there is Nudity in the one sex scene... She plays in a lot of Adult Movies you'll find on Shotime late at night... She has done some porn as well... The main girl friend from the game, not the long haired girl...

Yeah I played the first one and since I had sent in my little mailer card, they sent me a notice telling me when part II would be released... I went and got it as soon as it was, because I liked the first one so much... Second one was a bit strange, but still a very good game... Back then any game that had more than 2 Discs was almost a solid Promise to be a Good Game...

Came across a game in a small local store for a low price, looked pretty good on the box, so I bought it... Anyone know anything about Traitors Gate 2??? Please tell me this isn't one of those type of games where you HAD to play the first one to understand it...
