Truly Disturbing...

It amazes me just how cold hearted the human race can appear to be...
Some Old Man just walking along, gets flipped into the air by a car and just left to lay there...

I had a girl from my graduating class end up doing a hit and run as well. The guy died on the scene and a friend of mine ended up seeing her at an ice cream shop around town only a few years later. It goes to show how bad the justice system and the care for human life in this country is right now.

Yeah that's messed up too...
I had a Close Friend of mine hit by a Drunk Driver back in High School, 1991, and the lady that hit her was on House Arrest for 18 months, NO Jail Time...

This here just happened today though, I was sifting through some papers and had MSNBC on and they started talking about it, so I glanced up and watched the Video Clip... Amazing how the people just kept driver, didn't care that there was someone lying in the other lane hardly moving...

It's not like it was a regular accident. The cars that did it were involved in a chase, so it's my assumption that stopping to explain what was happening wouldn't be in their best interest, even if they did think it was wrong.

Car chases look so cool in movies, but they're ridiculous, because there's no way they could go on for 20 min. like that in the city without causing major damage.

By the way... it's also disturbing that this news is all over the internet now only because the "OMG lookit that  " factor. But that's normal for the internet.
I wasn't talking about the cars involved... I was talking about the people on the street and the other cars just driving by... You can watch after he gets hit, the cars just drive by... The one SUV pulls over for like 3 seconds and then goes on...
Seeing it on the Actual News you saw more of the Traffic just go by, the internet Clip isn't the full clip, they pieced it with the Interview with the man's son...

I see what you mean. Although, in an emergency not everyone knows what to do. It's a bit surreal to see something like that happen.

I once saw an old man collapse outside when I was in a full city bus once. No one tried to get off the bus to help him, including me. Eventually someone in a car stopped to help him. I feel bad about it now, of course, and I hope to do better next time, but at the time, I didn't know what to think.
Most people in an emergency situation don't know how to handle it. Also, the reason why a lot of drivers proceed onwards after being near an accident is becuase there is usually enough people on the scene to provide sufficient help and the last thing they need is more issues blocking the road.

I personally would stop and check things out though. It is very sad that there are people out there that would do a hit and run... but these are usually people who panic and have no idea what to do.

In many cases, stopping usually lands you in less trouble than if you were to hit and run, and then get caught.

A friend of our family was driving home from a gig when he hit a girl and she was killed. she, however, was drunk and lying on the road being an idiot and by the time he saw her it was too late. He stopped right away though, and addressed the situation. He was not charged becuase she was the one lying in the middle of the road and he genuinely did not see her. However, if he had just driven off, he would have been charged.

In essence, it is always good to pull over becuase you should not make a bad situation any worse.

Whats disturbing is that they dont want to make another Tex game.
The saddest thing about all of this is that i'm actually not surprised. The presence of the good samaratin has diminished increasingly in society which is not limited to America. There's hints of it here in Australia too.
I think that's why I find most Disturbing as well Joel... Is that I wasn't really surprised by the fact that people were just moving along...

I'm really paranoid about being a good samaritan. For all I know if someone's car appears to be broken down it could be a setup. In this case I'm not sure there's anything anyone could have done besides call 911.

Well that's mainly becuase in this country (and many other countries), if you can get busted or sued for using "force" on someone who is a burglar on your own property, then it's no wonder most folks avoid the confrontations when they can.

But in this particular case you need to bear in mind that some vehicles did stop... the ones who didn't probably already knew there were enough people around the help them and it would be best for them to not get in the way (especially when you need room for the ambulace to come), and the slow response from the people on the street is most likely a combination of shock, and fear that they don't want to make matters worse being unexperienced in proper first aid.

As for me, if I was a bystander my first move would be to handle some kind of traffic control, while allowing only a couple of people to try and maintain verbal contact with the man whilst calling an ambulance. And if I were a driver, I would drive after the cars in an attempt to see a licence plate number, in the hopes that another bystander would do the above already.

That Is Sooo True... We've had a lot of that recently... Guys dressed like cops will pull over young women and then assault them and whatnot... It can be very risky to be the Good Samaritan...

That's right. In my Law course we covered assault as part of the criminal law unit, it was found that the likelyhood of being sued or possibly charged was dramatically increase if you went to help them as you are taking on a duty of care for that person.
Yeah Baftis I've been thinking about that they're called Blue Light Bandits. How do you tell the difference? Impersonating a police officer should have life sentences.
