Not sure if we have anybody here who's currently located in or around the New Orleans/Biloxi area (and even if we do, I'm not sure if they could read this at the moment anyway), but at any rate, I'm sure that all of our thoughts are with you, and we hope that you and yours are safe and dry. Keep your heads up, mes amis.
Indeed all the our best wiches to all who need them
I know, and its only getting worse. Did you hear the news about Fats Domino? It seems that in the aftermath, he and his family has gone missing.

The bad new is that the devastation is terrible. From what I've been seeing, and a news report about violence amongst the survivors, because of lack of aid in the area, it has to be as bad, if not worse than Andrew in 92. My heart goes out to anybody, and everybody involved in this crisis.
The good new is, it could have been much worse. Worst case scenarios I was hearing was that the city would have been totally flooded, and wiped out. If the storm hadn't turned at the last second, that could have been the fate. Mother nature spared its full brunt, and for that I'm thankful.

I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
I think it is absolutely disgusting to hear that citizens are not only looting, stealing from peoples houses and shooting at rescue helicopters, but certain helpless citizens are getting bashed and raped amidst the chaos as a result of a lack of policing in the area.
Latest reports say that as many as 90% of good citizens will return home (at least to what is left) to find their belongings either destroyed by the storm or stolen by looters.
Whilst I am all for feeling sympathetic towards the innocent victims of such a tradgedy I really am beginning to think that the town does not deserve America's or the rest of the world's aid. It has become like a post apocalyptic wasteland and it sickens me to think that any group of citizens could stoop so low as they have during this terrible event. How can we help victims when one of their biggest problems is withing their own ranks?
It is hard enough to recover from a disaster like this, let alone your own people contributing to the towns demise.
I am speechless, disgusted and very, very angered.

I agree Cub it makes me sick to see some of the actions but I definately would never say that they dont deserve peoples help. The news in the US has a tendency to play things into the ground and over look any positive actions. (frankly violence and sex sells here) I guarantee you there are a lot of poor tired and hungry folks who dont deserve the blame of the actions from hoods. To be honest I think the President should allow a shoot to kill pollicy for the area.
At this point people have to understand that it looks like something like 25,000-150,000 either decided to stay or could not leave the city in time. a few hundred cops with no transport, communications and a totaly destoyed roadway system it becomes uncontrollable. I have begun to wonder what will it take to move that many people and what will it take to house, feed, and clothe them?
Even with all the helo's its darn near impossible to feed, protect and give water to 150,000 people. I fear this will degenerate into utter chaos, we could have more than 5000 dead in the city. This is such a blow to the US I am not sure we will be able to tell the extent of the loss for months to come.
