Indigo Prophecy Receives High Marks!
The name change was based on the whole Farhenheit 9/11 thing. Didn't want any confusion. It was suggested to change the name in all countries to Indigo Prophecy but they decided not to since far too many people in Europe and other such countries already knew it as Fahrenheit, so it was only changed for us Americans.
And yeah... editing.... freekin' lame. It's not so much that I do or don't mind having some sexual scenes edited a bit. It's the fact that the decision on whether or not I'm even ABLE to see or not see wasn't up to me. It was made by the people rating the games. And for some god awful reason a sex scene in America will give a game an 18+ only rating, yet... blood gore and mutilation will bring a 17+ rating so places like Wal-Mart will actually carry it. Cuz, Wal-Mart (and places like it) are FAMILY stores... they can't have 18+ GAMES... though, they CAN have gory unedited movies with sex and whatever else...
I don't think this country could make any less sense when it comes to the whole sex/violence thing. Though, it's pretty messed up the isolation Australia has to deal with sometimes. With the Phantasmagoria banning, GTA related bans and whatever else has gone off in the past.
RIDICULOUS!
The rant....is officially over.

PS i didnt hear any complaints about PHANTASMOGORIA either and it realy had a few gory bits in it.
Anyways just want to rant a bit too laters all
I think the reason Phantasmagoria got banned in Australia was because of a scene depicting death during sex, or rape or something to that effect.
The topic on censorship is a tricky one. I mean i'd like to think that it's up to the individual to deem if something will offend them (that's why we have classification), but there seems to be all this public outcry about games with such material because they are getting into the hands of impressionable youths.
Now in this instance, i personally put the blame on the parents (and possibly the store clerk for selling a child such a game in the first place). I would definitely not let my kid play Grand Theft Auto till i thought he was mature enough to handle such content, and only when i knew he could differentiate between fantasy and reality.
See, i think if someone plays a game and is compelled to commit a criminal act from what they have played, there was a problem with that person long before they picked up the controller. Banning such games isn't going to stop these things from happening. All it does is ruin it for the rest of us who can distinguish a game from reality.
It's kinda like the security stickers on DVDs in the US. They're supposed to disuade theft but all it really does is annoy the hell out of everyone who actually spends the money to purchase them.
Sorry, kinda got off topic.
That was my rant ^^

You tell 'em Atomic!
I was expectially annoyed when the copy of the film 'Hitch' my brother bought would not allow me to do a simple data copy to my Notebook HD for viewing via PowerDVD like most other DVD's do.
Piracy the theft prevention is a good thing, but you are right: when it gets in the way of honest consumers it becomes a sticky issue.

I just won (last night) a copy of the UK edition already imported into the US on E-Bay. Booyah!
Paid less for it as a result too. Apparently they were sent 2 copies by mistake so they put one on auction on e-bay and I ended up getting it for a total cost of 51 bucks. It woulda been like 56 or so to import it, and I'd probably be waiting a couple more weeks for it to finally get here too.
Hooray for E-Bay!

Alright, I have just beaten the game. In conclusion I give it an 8/10.
However, I must say two things about it.
First, the reference to the character, Barney, who had the same job in the mental institution in "Silence of the Lambs". And then there's the reference to the insane man that draws spirals from "Dark City", which was probably not the only thing it inspired.
Secondly, the story reminds me of what my friends say about my short stories. It's a good story, but there's quite obviously a lot of things in the background left unanswered. It seems more like a small piece of a very large and complex puzzle.
And when Tex Murphy is done again, I'd much prefer that the game does not play like Indigo Prophecy. Indigo played well for it's subject matter, and while certain sequences might work during a Tex scene (Imagine transplanting a fight scene from Indigo to the rooftop fight scene in Pandora, or the fight with Big Jim Slade), while they might work during some sequences, I don't think Tex should spend an entire game doing that.
And now an excerpt from producer's speaking to each other!
1: Why, dear old chap, I think we should make a Tex Murphy game.
2: Hear, hear! But how should it play?
1: Why, I hear World of Warcraft and games of it's like are popular.
2: Why yes, that's brilliant, One! We shall make an mmorpg, where you are a detective in New San Fransisco! You fight hoodlums to gain powerups! There will be boss creatures! And dungeans!
1: Hah hah! Unfortunately that sounds expensive. Let's just make a derivate dungean crawler in which the player can either choose the steroid enhanced male brawler or the impossibly skinny, large breasted female witch!
Masses: Gobble, gobble, gobble!

Oh my god, now that was funny, and so true. I wonder sometimes if the conversations these top executives have at EA and such aren't terribly close to actually just that.Vracar wrote: And now an excerpt from producer's speaking to each other!

I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
