Morgan Freeman's been in a bad car-crash and his condition is severe. The ol' boy's 71 years old, so let's hope he pulls through. It's been a bad enough year already.

When we hit Dec 31 someone really should do an recap thread, the list will look impressive I imagine for both the number of names and the folks on it.

It turns out that in januray the woman who played the female vampire in Plan 9 From Outer Space passed on. Don't recall her name (think it was finnish) but she was known as Vampira, and was one of the first female horror tv-show hosts.

Been a bad year to be a celebrity.

McFerrin said bystanders converged on the scene trying to get a glimpse of the actor.

When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies," McFerrin said.

As far as I'm concerned Morgan Freeman is a natural treasure. Shawshank Redemption is one of my top 10 stories/films.

Let's not start with Accidental Deaths as well... Lets hope Freeman pulls through...

Only days after Labeouf had his accident... Though he was drinking, I haven't heard any reports of Freeman being under any influence...

I didn´t hear about this before, but i really hope he will recover from it and still has years and years to go.
It´s like Fred said. Morgan Freeman is one of these persons that you just can't dislike.
A wonderful actor ( Hey , both thumbs up to Jen,Shawshank redemption is really awesome ) and he´s got some kind of charisma, that just makes him seem wise and one hell of a good person.
Anyways, hope things turn out well, Morgan Freeman can have a spot on the 2038 Death-list , but not on the long 2008 list!
This is the Latest to be published... About a half hour ago or so... So nothing has really changed, same injuries and the Friend's condition is still unknown...

Freeman, 71, was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, about 90 miles north of the accident in rural Tallahatchie County.

The actor "has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage, but is in good spirits," his publicist said. "He is having a little bit of surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to help correct the damage," she said. "He says he'll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery."

Freeman, who won an Oscar for his role in "Million Dollar Baby," appears in "The Dark Knight."

Freeman and a friend, Demaris Meyer, were traveling on Hwy. 32 when the car, belonging to Meyer, ran off the road shortly before midnight Sunday, authorities said. The vehicle flipped several times but landed upright in a ditch about 5 miles west of Charleston, not far from where Freeman and his wife live. A State Patrol spokesman said rescuers had to use the jaws of life to remove Freeman from the car. He said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug use.

Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, who went to the scene, said Freeman was conscious and joking with the rescue workers at one point.

Meyer's condition is not known.

If its and arm and a shoulder how can they say its serious? I blame America for all these deaths because they dont fund the needed gene therapy research and for not being on top of their game in medical science. These news reporters think they're so smart posting articles about people's deaths but they dont have a solution or make the pitch for funding gene therapy at the end of their articles.

Latest: Morgan Freeman broke his shoulder and arm when he flipped his car over in Mississippi on Sunday night.

The actor and his passenger Demaris Meyer had to be cut from the wreckage and airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee after Morgan lost control of the vehicle on Highway 32, near his home in Charleston.

After initial concerns about his wellbeing, the 71-year-old's publicist has confirmed Freeman is suffering broken bones, but is expected to make a "good" recovery.

He was visited in hospital on Monday (4Aug08) by Bill Luckett, friend and co-owner of Freeman's Mississippi restaurant Madidi, who said the star was sitting up and talking.

Meyer, whose relationship to Freeman is unknown, is suffering from minor injuries but is "in good condition".
The man is 71 years old... Whenever the patient is that old, they call it Serious, especially when it's a Celebrity... Because once the body has that type of shock it could affect other organs in the body that weren't even affected in the accident, mainly the heart, among other vital organs...
So they say it's Serious until every single readout on their Vitals comes out as a Textbook readout...

Well being in a car accident is usually Serious anyway, but usually not Deadly Serious. I know, I've been in one.

Forgive me but I somehow dont understand where you are getting this whole "gene" issue from. Its a car accident.....

The guy is over 70 years old and was in a serious accident, its not outside the pale to think he could die from trama. I hardly see where "gene therapy" is supposed to help here.

Also last time I checked while our healthcare is expensive its still considered some of the best in the world.

I've been in a few myself... They do try to treat you like it's serious even if it isn't...
