Need help running Overseer on Vista

Hi all -- it's been a couple of years since I logged in here. I was having Tex withdrawal and I've successfully installed and played UAKM and Pandora on my Dell/Vista. Many thanks to all who have made this possible, especially Nilo and Glenn. There were many more helpful notes but I'm sorry I don't remember the names.

My new problem is this:

I've downloaded the Overseer for Vista from Nilo's site and have two major problems.

Problem #1: I have to use Disc #1 each time I access the game. I'm on Disc #2 in the game and after saving and exiting, the next time I want to play I'm asked to insert Disc #1 before it gives me the "load" screen.

Problem #2: Some of the inventory items disappear after I've picked them up. This is the biggest problem of all because it won't let me examine the objects and as you know it is essential to do this in order to advance in the game.

Anyone have a suggestion about how to get around these problems? #1 is annoying but I can live with it. #2 is something I'll need a solution for because I can't proceed.

Many thanks in advance!

You wouldn't happen to have an older machine to play it on would ya?

I haven't tried to run it on Vista yet, but I'll look into it over the weekend and see if I can figure out how to help. Do you happen to have the DVD?
Thank you for answering my note.

I think I've figured out the answer to problem #2. I'm using the download from Nilo's site and I've discovered when I examine some of the inventory items they have already been examined and entered into inventory in their new forms. I'm going into Day Six and so far so good! (Many thanks to Nilo!!!)

About problem #1....I still have to use Disk #1 to load up the game each time I get into it but I don't mind that so much. I'm having so much fun playing the game that the disk swapping is no more than just a minor annoyance.

I do have an old IBM with Win95 and Dos 6.0. It's one of my treasures! I've gone through several computers over the past 20 years but I'll never give up my old buddy. It lives in my office closet because I'm limited on desk space and I'm using a new computer for every day things.

I do have the Overseer DVD but I've never been able to run it on any computer I've owned.

I played through UAKM and Pandora with DOSBOX on my Vista. Didn't have a single problem. Unless I run into a problem with Gideon's art gallery in Overseer I think I'm home free. I've found it's easier to manuever around the gallery using a trackball rather than a standard mouse and so when I reach that part I'll have to switch them.

I'm so happy to have UAKM, Pandora and Overseer on my Dell/Vista. All you folks here on the Tex support board have been invaluable help.

Love you all and many thanks. Tex Murphy LIVES in my house.
