I was really enthusiastic about this, but lately I have become worried as the project has changed hands about 2 or 3 times now which has continually pushed the project back. There's a few too many cooks who have had their hands on this one. I'll certainly give the trial package a go, but i'm not sure if i'll be a subscriber. But this game does have the potential to be amazingly good, but it could very easily go the other way too.
Depends on what they charge for it on whether or not I'll pay for it... I also want to see how complicated it's going to be to operate... If it's too time consuming I won't be a Pay-To-Play Subscriber either... Just have to wait and see, unfortunately...

This game makes less sense than a FALLOUT MMORPG.
Thousands and thousands of Star Fleet Captains? That sounds realistic!
I'm not a Trekie. I do enjoy the shows. I netflixed the first 2 seasons of Next Gen, and the third season is sprinkled throughout my current Queue. I enjoy the stories (sometimes) and generally find it to be entertaining. However from my observation there weren't thousands and thousands of ships out there.
I remember the Star Trek Adventure game from way back where you played as the Original Crew. That game was really, really, good. The rest have all been ok or dismal (kind of like the movies and TV shows after DS9).
This just appears to be a way to cash in on an IP. A poorly thought out way to cash in an IP at that.
If the game consisted of hundreds of ships and you getting virtual duties on the ships and working your way up in rank... I might consider that well thought out. Thousands and thousands of Captains exploring the same Galaxy? Not so much.
Plus it has changed hands multiple times. To be done well it would take some serious talent. That makes me question it all.

If I'm not mistaken, you can choose the race you are going to be, so you don't have to be just in the Federation... Also, in the Games, Movies, Shows, etc. we only saw what was focused on, the stars of whichever you were viewing... Space is a very BIG place... So I have no problem imagining hundreds and thousands of ships...lotus_j wrote:Thousands and thousands of Star Fleet Captains? That sounds realistic!
Well of course it is, I don't know about it being a poor idea though... Everyone is out to make a buck... Someone thought of a way to milk more money out of Trekkies and they are going to capitalize on it... Way of the world...lotus_j wrote:This just appears to be a way to cash in on an IP. Evernight has been running for years, with hundreds and thousands of Kingdoms in the same little world... What do you think our world would have turned out like if we had had that many Realms back in our Medieval Days???lotus_j wrote:If the game consisted of hundreds of ships and you getting virtual duties on the ships and working your way up in rank... So the concept of the Star Trek world doing it, isn't that far fetched in my opinion... I myself would like it better if it ends up split up some... You know something like, only allowing so many players to join this game and then the next game starts and X amount of people join that one and so forth and so on... Limit it to something like 500 per game set... It would require a bit more programing and server space, but I think it would be worth it for the gaming experience...
We will just have to wait and see how it all turns out... I'm optimistic, but then again I'm somewhat of a Trekkie so I kind of have to be optimistic... lol
I don't go to conventions or have outrageous collections, but I do like Star Trek, Generation, and Voyager very much... Not a big fan of DS9 though, just could never get into that one...

I haven't even seen anything about it yet but if they keep known characters out (so help me if I see 56 Spocks together in a clan) and if they were to do large individual servers like CS but with a larger amount of players at a time per server then it could be pretty good.
Space is big, but space is also empty, and it'd be pretty annoying if it were too crowded or if you constantly ran into someone (I'm thinking Eve Online here, where it became impossible to move without being obliterated).
Of course I'd rather someone took the time to do an actual well-developed and original space MMO (Eve had way too many problems), but then again it would be harder to sell than Star Trek or Star Wars.
Man it gets you thinking though, about the possibilities of a space and planet MMO. We just need more powerful servers and home pc's to render all of it, then holy $#it I'm pestering everyone with my ideas until it gets done

Part-Time Nomad
What we need is a Private Investigator MMO... Not sure about the details about how that would be done, but think of the possibilities...

I think you'll find most of the main star trek characters are either Dead or have such a high rank that the only case you'll ever hear about them is when "Starbase 29915 in sector 344" gets attacked and you're the only poor bastards in the area to stop them. I think the game is set 10 years after Nemesis.. by then Picard would have retired and Janeway too. Sisco might still be around though.
I sooo hope this is like Star Fleet Command! if it ends up like SFC I will totally play. That alone would be worth it. The user interface suggest it is Star Fleet Command online so should be EPIC.
