I met Roger Moore!!!!!!!!!
I realise that we already have a thread going that is 007 related, but I felt this was just a little too special to be shelved in a stock standard thread. I was walking down Elizabeth Street today without even realising that Mr Moore was in town doing a book signing for his autobiography. I was approaching Angus and Robertson (pretty sure that was the store) only to be stopped by a security guard who politely asked me to hold a moment as he was creating a path. I noticed that around the protected area were members of the media, other security guards and a lot of spectators. I had no idea what to expect.
Next thing I see is 007 leaving the store looking as dapper as ever making his way out to the escort vehicle. As he does, he turns to me and says a very charming "hello" with a warm smile and walks to the car. I physically couldn't bring myself to say anything, my throat actually locked up. He got into the car and they drove away. So not so much a meeting, more of an encounter. But definitely a highlight for 2008. I'm just kicking myself that I didn't realise that he was in town, I had just missed the book signing!
Oh well, I got a Bond moment in anyway. This is my one and only day off this week too. I picked pretty well, hey?

SWEET! I grew up with him as Bond. That would have been an awesome experience! Don't feel bad however because I probably would have done the exact same thing.
EDIT: The only brush with celebrity I had was shaking hands with the Duchess of York when I was a kid and making an ass of myself. She laughed so it was all good.
I also shot an interview with Dakota House from North of 60, a Canadian drama about living up north. Also I had the 2 cops from Corner Gas watch my movie at a film festival once so that was a little surreal. Corner Gas is a popular Canadian sitcom I don't know if it is in the States or elsewhere but they were Canadian celebs so I don't know if they count. Even we don't really know who Canadian celebs are. We see them and are like "Hey you're . . . THAT guy from ummm that show!" and then they leave.
Another EDIT: I don't know if this counts but I was on a reality show called The Great Race (not Amazing Race) and for a couple years afterward I had people coming up to me asking if I was that guy from that reality show. It's kinda the opposite but yeah. Did that mean I was a temp celeb? Hmmm now that I think of it I've been on National television twice now and none of it is related to what I do, just odd occurrences. Now I am gonna be thinking about that one all day.

Your Roger Moore encounter sounds pretty cool. Perhaps if you knew he has in town, you would have done something differently and never had this encounter. So maybe it's a good thing to have been taken by surprise.
Here's something I'm curious about: Most of the time, when people meet a movie celebrity (especially an action movie celebrity, the impression is that the actor is much smaller or shorter in real life than he appears on the screen. Was this the case for Roger Moore or was he just about the size you imagined him?
The famous encounters of mine which come to mind:
1. I've been back stage with Cat Stevens and shared a beer with him.
2. I had an intimate lunch (a foursome) with Harrison Schmidt. He is the last guy to walk on the Moon (last one up the ladder on the last mission.) He's also the guy who took that famous photo of the Earth from space that you see all the time. It is probably the most famous photo of all time.

Dr Paul: Funny you should say that, the only reason I was in the city that day was due to doing an errand for my mother which I quite frankly (at the time) couldn't be bothered doing. But fate had something more in mind. Just imagine on all the other opportunities i've missed?!
Cub: ahahaha, nice idea. What I would have preferred is for him to make a pitch to Brocoli and have me cast as the next James Bond and have Roger as the next Q!

Famous Encounter : Backstage with Jason Newsted, former bass player of Metallica. Guitar Signing by Kirk Hemmett and Lars Ulrich. Wasn't that close to kirk though.. Had to hand the guitar to a security guard and he brought it to him. Lars was right in front of me though.

That rocks Joel... Roger Moore was a good actor... Hasn't done a lot in recent years, mostly just voice work...
I've met a few actors... Bruce Willis when he was here filming Live Free or Die Hard... John Travolta when he filmed Ladder 49 here... Nicole Kidman when she filmed The Invasion, I also met Keith Urban when I met her... I met Jenna Jameson at a Car Show a few years ago, she was signing posters...
My favorite is meeting Harrison Ford, I was fortunate enough to have Dinner with him... He bought a plane from the company my father works for, Skytech... That man knows how to close down a bar as well... And while he is there, no one pays for a thing... He is a real class act... Last I heard, he owns 7 planes and a helicopter... A couple of years ago in the mountains of Wyoming he was responsible for the recovery of a lost Boy Scout... He heard about the search and went up in his own Helicopter and helped search and was the one who found him...
