11th doctor revealed!

The 11th incarnation of Doctor Who's wandering Time Lord will be played by 26 year-old Matt Smith. Personally I'm quite excited - it would have been boring if Paterson Joseph was selected after the months of press speculation. Good luck Matt!
I never got into that show, but I do hear it's quite good from some people who have watched it... Glad to hear they aren't canceling it like they are ER and a few others...

Did anyone else watch My Own Worst Enemy, with Christian Slater??? That isn't coming back after the holiday season either... I liked it myself...

Doctor Who has a lot of iterations. It's like a British James Bond.

I would pay to see Sean Connery mutate on-screen into Roger Moore.

Isn't Dr Who the longest running sci fi program, having started in 1963?

It will be interesting to see if Matt Smith is any good, though he has a tough act to follow. Christopher Eccleston was good and David Tennant was getting a name for himself when he was announced as the doctor. Matt Smith has come from nowhere. Fingers crossed, but it's 3 more David Tennant shows to see before Matt Smith comes about.

I think it would be really good if they had a 3 episode build up to changing doctors. It would be really cool if he met himself as the next doctor before he transformed into him.

I'm also very surprised by this. I too was expecting Patterson Jospeph because of all the build up in the press (which in the past has proven to be quite accurate with previous casting of DW and James Bond).

I have to admit, I am a little underwhelmed that they've cast someone so young. This is the youngest Doctor we've had to date. But I have learned from the previous casting decisions for this show and also Daniel Craig's James Bond to allow the results to speak for themselves. But, each regeneration has always resulted in a younger Doctor, so we'll see. I wish him well :)

(Although I do think he looks a little emo)

True. but he's just a tad younger than Peter Davison, who was 30 when he started playing the Doctor.
Davison was one of my favorites.

I'm going to be seeing how it pans out but I don't know how much I'll be following the new series after Tennant. It depends how he plays it I guess and what his companion is like. I didn't really get into Eccleston but I did enjoy Tennant a lot, especially with his last companion.

My favorite companion was Inara Serra.
