Overseer on Vista problem.
Been a while since i have been here, but I tried to install Overseer on my new laptop today. Used the link to Nilo's site as well as another guide i found when i google searched.
I am able to get the game installed and updated, but as soon as I try to run Overseer, the Access video will play, but half the screen is black, and then the game crashes instead of going to the main menu.
I tried installing it again on my XP desktop and it worked perfectly, but I really wanted to get it running on my laptop for when I have to go out of town on business trips.
So short of reformatting my laptop in XP just for this game, is there any ideas on how i could get this to work?
thanks

Did you install DVDExpress? Verify in the Config Menu on the Video tab that your MPEG II Device says "Mediamatics DVD Express".
When you see black where there would normally be a video cutscene it is due to the lack of the dvd decoder.
Also, where did you download DVDExpress from?

A sansGUI interface is one that does not have the small features called "Windows". The term comes from the French word sans, meaning "without".
SansGUI's are more typically used in Unix-like Operating Systems. The conventional wisdom is that a GUI (Grapical User Interface) help guide the casual computer user to perform routine tasks with Point and Click simplicity. SansGUI's have acquired considerable acceptance for users accustomed to the CLI (Command Line Interface).

with pandora there is only one option & thats dos box only.
You can install the cd/dvd installer to save loading disks as there is a lot of disk swapping.
I found it after you burned a dvd of all the disk it's only sucessfull from the hard drive install & not playing from the dvd.
Seems to have a few problems with viewing items. From the hard disk install I have found not to get too close in a couple sections or the game crashes. A perfect example in the sewer & using a tool to move the brick the tools freezes on the mouse pointer. So get back a distance & it doesn't do it. I also find the same thing at roswell when using the oxy torch.
Hope I haven't given anything away if you are a new player.
have fun......

Try going to Nilo's site and see if any of his instructions can help you with Pandora...

To edit the config file in vista. Go to the dos box folder which should be in program files & right click properties on the config file, select user folder & select security tab & place a tick on modify. You might have to click on administrator first & then allow users to make changes or something like that.calico wrote:No you didnt ruin anything. Been playing Tex games since they first came out and revisit them every couple of years.
I can't even install Pandora on my Vista machine. It won't let me mount my cd drive in dosbox. Vista won't let me edit the files to mount the drive.
Then you can edit the file
