Tex Murphy Movies
Hi all,
The last three Tex Murphy adventures were largely based on video materials. Why wouldn't anybody turn each one of them into "normal" movies (2 hours or so)?
I mean, all the videos exist and are available in the games. All you need is to find a way of converting them to a known format and joining them together to make a coherent plot.
I know there are "playthroughs" of UAKM and Pandora on YouTube, but with a little effort, one can make "real movies" out of the game videos.
What do you think about that?

Someone on this board (who lives in the UK I think and I keep forgetting who but it's written down!) did just that with Overseer - they took the movie clips and voiceovers from segments that needed it, and made it into a movie. There was even a really cool TEX instead of THX thing at the beginning.
TPD would be a bit longer to do but certainly would be cool if it could be done. I think though that there were so many ways it could go but more importantly the way it was encoded (oh, and copyright) would probably prevent that happening.
I mean it could come back one day as a revamped game and could still have resale value (look at Monkey Island 1 Special Edition for example), so maybe it's best left as a fond memory but would be most welcome if it were brought up to date for a new generation should Tex one day take off and be as big as he used to be.

That's great! Do you know where can I find and download/watch it?Demonlawyer wrote:Someone on this board (who lives in the UK I think and I keep forgetting who but it's written down!) did just that with Overseer - they took the movie clips and voiceovers from segments that needed it, and made it into a movie.
I think it was offered to anyone who wanted, for a small fee to copy and post it. I have a copy, and did say previously that I wouldn't make copies without consent of whoever made it, (which I then got) and wouldn't do if Aaron et al objected (and got no objections), but the second disk couldn't be re-copied. It filled the whole of the second disk and even the person who previously asked and who I sent it to couldn't copy it.
Maybe it will now fit on DVDs; I'll try and have a look, though hopefully whoever did it will step forward and still be able to make copies from the original.

Samwise, welcome to the boards, good to see you posting...
On top of what D-Lawyer as already said about Overseer, there was suppose to be a Movie based on Pandora called Black Sun Rising... But for some reason it got canned...
I agree completely, any of the stories, all 5 of them, would make for a great movie or at least a TV-Mini-Series...
We have a lot of talent on this board, who I personally believe will make it quite big one day in the near future, and with some luck when that happens they will use the connections they make to start production on a Tex Series of Movies or something...
After all those of us who have found this board and I'm sure there are many others out there that haven't yet for whatever reason, have faithfully waited for Tex to be continued in any fashion...
There are also movies on Youtube of the different games that people have put together... You could try looking there to see if you can find anything to your liking... Nothing out of this world, but certainly fun to watch from time to time...

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I know about the Pandora planned movie (wasn't it called "Black Sun Ascending"?) Haven't got the chance to write here, but I'm one of the most loyal Tex fans...
I didn't mean to produce new movies, just to join the existing videos from the games to make them more like a real movie than a "playthrough" (like the ones on YouTube). I'm almost certain Chris and Aaron wouldn't mind this kind of fan movies. Anyways - just a thought

You're right, it might have been Ascending... Been so long since I've even thought about it...
A lot of things in this world that should have been followed up with this or that and just no one ever did it... Kind of sucks...

I like that assurance Cub. I have a friend I went to school with who always wanted to produce and direct his own movies. He now lives in LA and announced last week he's executive producer on a lionsgate movie. I have no doubt that one day you too will be doing well in the movie industry matey.
