ebay tex murphy

So the Aaron Conners book UKM is currently on ebay for $44.90...

I looked over the description and didn't see anything particularly rare about it (autograph, misprints, etc.).

I was lucky enough to find both books (UKM and Pandora Directive) at a used book store in town a few years back.

And I still come back and read that book (partiularly since my PC has gotten too fast for some of the older games)... It's a great read with a lot of character study and a more in-depth plot...

But $44.90??? And that's cheap, apparently... I just saw the same book on biblio.com for $99 at the bargain rate... and Pandora Directive for $66.78 at another site... what gives?

Maybe there's enough of a fan base out there to prove what we've known all along about our Mr. Murphy...
We talked a little about the cost of the books in this thread just recently so some of my comments are there:
here

It really does seem odd that Under A Killing Moon is so expensive, and I'm not sure either why every single copy is always automatically considered 'rare'. I guess less copies were amde than Pandora Directive? I've never actually heard anyone state factually why it's supposedly such an item that deserves such a consistently sky-high price range....

Pandora Directive for $66.78!? You'd be ripped off there in my opinion. Maybe I'm mistaken these days but I was always under the impression that you can get that for pretty cheap. Maybe $10 at the most? Maybe times have changed. Copies on Amazon.co.uk seem to be around £30... oh well I guess its gonna rocket up soon...

Anyway you're lucky you got both for a good price. I got Pandora Directive for about £3-6 or something. As for the other one, at least it can be obtained electronically thanks to kind people here.

I don't think I've noticed you before so just wanted to say welcome to the community if you are new. Nice pic by the way.

The Pandora Directive had two print runs. The ones with the pink spines are supposed to be worth more than the second print run which I think had a black spine.
Cyndi V has been here for years... almost since the beginning! And it is great to have her back in action!

I have a copy of UAKM and PD with the pink spines. They are quite rare and I am happy to have them in my possession.

BTW, good to see you here, CindyV.

At least it means I have some savings for my old days :D
NSU is a way of life...
Jim, would you be kind enough to send a pic of those spines? Very frustrating. I was working at Barnes and Noble when they came out and remember ordering and reordering them in. (It was my Staff rec.) I've still got my UAKM and 1 and a half PD. (one is a strip) Neither have the pink. I've had at least a dozen PD's and a few UAKM's pass through my hands. Never seen it.
I thought it was an urban legend! :P

Love to all!
Jen
Wow... the infamous pink spine! The holy grail of the Tex Murphy novels. Locked away in Jim's safe alongside the Gray's Sports Almanac.

LOL Cub!

Maybe it's time I got out the almanac and started placing bets.

Jen, the other day I won the ebay auction for UAKM the novel. I think I paid $5.95 plus S&H cause no one else bid on it. Guess what? Pink spine!!!
When I opened the package and saw the pink I went into a euphoric state of nth degree happiness.

Wow, sorry Cyndi, not seen you before. I guess my alzheimers must be getting pretty bad - forget who's been about and who hasn't.
Jim
Yes, I saw the UAKM novel that you got a hella good deal on. That's why in one of my posts I mentioned letting me get the next one. I was watching the auction, and didn't want to bid against you. Now that I know it was pink spined.....

just kidding 8)
A jpeg would be very nice though, of the novel and your other secret goodies.

Jen
thanks for the welcome everyone (on the last post too!)

wow, a pink spine? i'd like to see that too... mine aren't that cool. but i like them nonetheless.

i was on this board when i was 18 (like the picture) and now i'm 23... it's been quite a few years i suppose :).

know what's cool? i actually got to go to san francisco this year for the first time... (only my second trip to california)... and i was so stoked. i kept talking about tex but no one in the car with me knew what i was talking about or why i was so excited to be on Lombard street... never saw chandler avenue though. it was a quick trip... spent most of the time in napa valley :P .

big e-mail hugs to all!
Head for Coit Tower...
