SansGUI

I came across a overseer dvd patch on line, it's an installer with moonlight elcard decoder & also rxs software in the installer. It's a newer version of decoder I have used over the years. You install dvd express first as the dvd will not run without it. install overseer & then the patch file.

the moonlight logo shows on screen so you know if the decoder is working.
video sequences work great, however the mouse freezes throughout the game & ctrl/alt/delete only releases your mouse & but you have to reset the pc. I am trying this on XP.

I was wondering if you can suggest something since you had great sucess with your cd version.
I have removed any program that might be causing the conflict.

I must add I can only run the game with lock video edited as at the video sequences it just crashes to the desk top.

I cannot remember having so much trouble with xp before. Maybe it is sp3.

I sent you a PM about uploading the file to me to check.
A sansGUI interface is one that does not have the small features called "Windows". The term comes from the French word sans, meaning "without".

SansGUI's are more typically used in Unix-like Operating Systems. The conventional wisdom is that a GUI (Grapical User Interface) help guide the casual computer user to perform routine tasks with Point and Click simplicity. SansGUI's have acquired considerable acceptance for users accustomed to the CLI (Command Line Interface).

Try replacing the tex.ini file that was installed with the one from my archive. Change the cd_map to the letter of your drive. start the game again and choose the DVDexpress decoder even though it is not installed. I also had to change lockvideo=0 to lockvideo=-1.

if you use that installer with the elcard, my "overseer.exe" and "tex.ini" than copy the DATA folder from the dvd to the game directory...it'll play from your hard drive.

I had mouse trails until I changed the lockvideo setting, then I had mouse freezing until I used my tex.ini. I think it was the midi drivername=Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth that caused the issue.

personally I had a gut full of it, just love your version. Makes playing overseer a dream & not a nightmare.

I will also try your suggestions. the lock video setting hasn't helped< I keep on having to change to software to advance the game. I am actually running the dvd from an image file as the dvd is too slow.

A guy on gog has converted the mpeg files & incorporated in the cd installer, it will be interesting to see how it goes. He is just playing it through now for a test. He claims he still is getting the problem at the ladder just before the lab.

I think when i copied over my overseer.exe and tex.ini along with the data folder from the dvd it was no longer down sampling the video.

I only tried to get the game playable using Basti007's installer.

I don't have alot of time to test this but if you want to try something....
Try installing Intel RSX -> Elcard Decoder (not DVDexpress)-> Overseer from the DVD -> The 1.04 Patch -> My Overseer.exe and Tex.ini -> Copy the Data folder to the game directory. Go to the config menu in the game and set it to dvdexpress. Try to play the game.

I tried your suggestions & found a full white letter box instead of video. So it doesn't work.

Uninstalled overseer & set the game up again with dvd express without basti dvd patch,
(gee I haven't heard from him for years) he wrote the UAKM no cd patch which alot of us couldn't get going ,
anyway stARted game from scratch & no mouse lockups, going great until the standard ladder crash, swaped to software, graphics are screwey but just pass the screen enough to save & change back to hardware. Game is fine until lab & back to software again & surf lodge crashes again, back to software mode.

Basti patch is set as software & not hardware, I wonder if he has changed things to run as software.
How old is this patch, someone said it was just done but I have a feeling it's as old as the hills.

I will have one more go & see what happens.

The link you sent me says the OverseerDVDPatch.exe was uploaded on 03/22/2009.
The dosgamesetup.exe inside has a date of 02/24/2005.

I uninstalled everything concerning Tex Murphy Overseer
  • Intel RSX 3D
Moonlight MPEG-2 Decoder Pack (From Basti007's installer)
    Mediamatics DVD Express
    Tex Murphy Overseer
Next I installed Tex Murphy Overseer cleanly, Don't forget you still have to change compatibility to Windows 95 or 98/Me.
  • Intel RSX 3D
    Moonlight MPEG-2 Decoder Pack
Tex Murphy Overseer from the real DVD
    The Official Patch 1.04
I copied the my "Overseer.exe" and "Tex.ini" to the game directory
I copied the DATA folder from the dvd to the game directory
    Start Overseer
Go to Config->Video->MPEG II Device=Mediamatics DVD Express
I was able to watch the videos and interact with the VR World without the dvd in the drive. I didn't use any other installers or files other than the Original DVD and my patch.

A couple months ago I did run into a problem with a codec that kept me from seeing videos that I corrected by reinstalling the DivX Codec.

got the same results again, white screen letterbox, sound is there.

The only thing I thought when you installed the data file from dvd disk to overseer folder, did you copy the whole folder (data folder) or did you open the data folder & then copy all the files.
I remembe years ago with pandora we just copied all the files from the sub folder.
