Oasis break up

Today is a very sad day for me.

I know Oasis aren't the most popular band on this forum, but I thought i'd still share this story with everyone here anyway. For over a decade, Oasis have been one of my all time favourite bands and will continue to be. You can say what you like about their behaviour and borrowing from The Beatles, but they were still brilliant. I love them and nothing could ever change that.

Apparently, just the other night before heading out on stage, the Gallagher Brothers had the feud to end all feuds:

While at the moment it so far states that Noel is out of the band, it's also been heavily rumoured that the band will no longer be given that the remainder of their tour dates have been cancelled. Personally, as much as i've enjoyed seeing Liam's growth as a songwriter over the years, I wouldn't want to see Oasis without Noel. In fact, i'm more open to a Liam-free Oasis than to lose Noel.

On the other hand, the split certainly doesn't come as a surprise given that 1997, along with Cool Britannia, should have killed the band, but it didn't (which is a testiment to the strength of the band). Any life that the band has endured since this era has been a bonus. In my opinion, they went on to do some of their best work and break the mould of simply being a Beatles tribute act.

Sadly, the animalistic personalities stood in the way of the genius of this band being truly realised. Had they shed their use of coarse language and pontificating themselves as "the worlds greatest band", I really see no reason why they couldn't have been as big as Coldplay. Anytime I talk to someone who puts this band down, they always express their dislike for the Brothers before discussing the music. In fact, people who express a dislike for the band only know about 2 or 3 of their songs!

They will be missed.
A long time ago my sister and my mom went on a trip that took them through London. They brought back an Oasis t-shirt for me. My mom had suggested the X-Files shirt, but my sister insisted on the other one. I turned it down and my sister kept it for herself.

That's my Oasis story.

I have no idea who or what Oasis is, I just needed one more post today to reach 1900. Sorry.

I am not a fan of Oasis.....

But you don't know who they are jim??? really??

Today is gonna be the day
That they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do about you now

Backbeat the word was on the street
That the fire in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard it all before
But you never really had a doubt
I don't believe that anybody feels
The way I do about you now

And all the roads we have to walk along are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I would
Like to say to you
I don't know how

Because maybe
You're gonna be the one who saves me ?
And after all
You're my wonderwall

Today was gonna be the day?
But they'll never throw it back to you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you're not to do
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do
About you now

And all the roads that lead to you were winding
And all the lights that light the way are blinding
There are many things that I would like to say to you
I don't know how

I said maybe
You're gonna be the one who saves me ?
And after all
You're my wonderwall

I said maybe
You're gonna be the one who saves me ?
And after an
You're my wonderwall

Said maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Oasis were big in the UK at least in the 90s, with a lot of people saying that they sound like what the Beatles would sound like if they were still going in the 90s. They were really big with their song Wonderwall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hzrDeceEKc and you can hear the Beatles influence a lot of their songs. Noel Gallagher is certainly a really good songwriter (I'd recommend almost any song from the album 'What's the Story (Morning Glory") and outside of Oasis plays a lot with Paul Weller.

Noel's brother Liam sings a lot of the songs (though Noel sings a few as well) but Liam comes across as a loudmouth arrogant idiot, and probably is.

I've not bought an album of theirs in years, but Dig Out Your Soul was their latest album and the only track I've heard from it is Falling Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in4wcKl4qiE) which isn't too bad.

Their other two biggest album songs are probably Champagne Supernova http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cJauX_q6wI and Don't look back in anger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8OipmKFDeM, though a lot of their B sides were really good too, so much so that the album The Masterplan was an album of all their B sides for those who didn't buy the singles.

I haven't listened to them in a while. I used to like them a whole lot, perhaps I should give their stuff one more go.

Speaking of Bands that are breaking up, Brooks & Dunn are breaking up as well...

Trick Pony broke up a couple years back, not that they were ever much of a band, she has done way better since leaving the band...

In all honesty, Jim, I think you'd prefer The Beatles. No offence of course.

He is (Liam).

Get the album, it's stunning. My second favourite of theirs in fact. Think psychedelic rock mixed with hard and blues rock. Amazing stuff.

Give them a go. Once you see past their personalities, there is much to offer. It's such a shame Liam still finds the need to act like a dick for media publicity because there's some amazing work by this band.
Thanks for the info - I'll have a listen to more of their tracks on iTunes.

I tend to always complicate things =P My wife constantly tells me I have no common sense.
I can even make brushing my teeth complicated. :?

I didn't say I hate them... I like a few of their songs, but I am not a die hard fan.
