VIDEO EXTRACTION!

hey everyone! i'm back after a long time.. i'm glad to see that people post on the forum several times a day which gives motive for everyone to visit the forum daily! i couldn't visit because i was very busy with university but now we have a few days off! anyways

i wanted to ask a silly question! i keep on reading about all those alternate endings of the pandora directive! i have to admit that myself i only played the game twice and i got the same ending every time (must be the walkthrough!). so anyway i wanted to ask if it's possible to extract these video files and make a big .avi file that we could download and watch as a movie.. each path a different file! it's just an idea. i'm sure someone could figure out something or someone might tell me "play the game again" but there is no time! so much information to gather and no time to gather it! thanx again!!
The Adventure genre is not dead. It's the memory of the games and the thrill we felt while playing them as well as the true sadness we felt when we finished them that will keep the genre alive.
Nope. No one's figured out the encoding format yet.

Basti (??? I think) did it for Overseer. But Pandora and UAKM, no.

Many moons ago someone posted a zip file that has all the various endings collected as saved games, plue the instructions on how to use them. I still have that zip file. It looks like I can't add it as an attachment here. If you post your email address I can send it to you.

It is possible to do and have tried it with other games... you run the video though to Video Card's Video Out (if it has it... and not mane do) and into a camera... then capture the footage back into the computer with Premiere or Final Cut or whatever... then simply crop it and export it as whatever video format you like.

I tried this a few times using my Video Cards video out into my digital camera and back into the computer using Peremiere Pro. Works a charm... but it isvery time consuming.

Perhaps one day I will get around to doing it... who knows.

Either that of you could use a program called FRAPS... which basically does a video screen capture of any game you play... in fact it's probably a lot more prectical.

thanx! here's my email address [email protected]

what i was talking about is that there must be a program that records as a video file everything that is projected on your computer screen.. even word documents, internet surfing or whatever!

I'm sure there is somewhere. But Pandora doesn't like other stuff running while it's hogging processor power. You won't want choppy video motion!

A program like that would probably only work with other programs running in windows behind it. I can't imagine it would read the screen when another program (like tex) is in full screen mode.

Overseer is slightly more likely to work with that sort of program as it's newer. But UAKM is DOS based so you won't get much joy.

Try your luck though. You want a motion screen capture program. I'm guessing that would be the term. Try googlating it!

I am pretty sure with modern processors you should not have a problem with Pandora hogging resources... and the capture program is not that demanding in itself and if you have it capturing to another drive separate to the one that Pandora is on you should not have a problem at all.

All the better if you have a hyper-threading processor or a dual core.

Stefan was the one who did the extraction of the .AP files for Overseer using a program called Overviewer.
Dos programs like Pandora need exclusive direct access to hardware (including video) which means it could only work using external video capture in native mode. That is, unless Dosbox has some sort of internal vidcap feature I don't know about.

I know that Fraps did the trick for me when I played Pro Evolution Soccer 4 as I tried to record a series of instant replays after a game. It made a nice video-file - don't remember if it was avi or mpg (can always convert it afterwards) - and it was in pretty decent quality as well. I don't know if it might work on Pandora, but one could always try :)

Well I know external video capture will work for sure becuase I once played Pandora on my television and it looked great! So essentially, replace the television with a camera and bob's your uncle!

Wow that's great!

With the way things are going on flatscreens, what you could probably do is hook your pc up to your flat screen tv, and use a dvd/video recorder to record it, then cut the bits you want and work with it that way. Would still be time consuming though I reckon.
