Heavy Rain
I just got this. And... Truly guys? My first thought after a few hours with this game is that this is a new generation of the Adventure Game genre. It's a compelling, single-player story-driven game. The only difference from the olden days is that point-and-click has been changed to button-correspondance, stick-wiggling and quick-time events.
And you know what? It works.
For those of you who remember Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophecy in the States), this game is made by the same company, and written and directed by the same guy. There's no paranmormal twist this time around though, it's just pure noir.
I find myself realizing that the gameplay itself isn't really all that difficult, it's not run-and-gun or mind-wrackingly hard puzzles or even get-this-weird-key-and-use-it-on-the-locked-door-on-the-other-side-of-the-map. What it is though, is well-paced, well-thought out and well-written storytelling!
If you own a PS3 and you're a regular on this board - you owe yourself to try this game out.
Storywise, it's got everything I love about the noir-genre. I sincerely do not wish to spoil this for anyone - suffice it to say that it's a really, really good story. If you love a dark, gritty story you will like this game.
In fact I'm gonna go ahead and pay this game the greatest compliment I can - if anybody besides our beloved boys were to make a new Tex-game - I would want it to be Quantic Dreams.
There, I said it.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Ever since I saw the first trailers and gameplay footage of Heavy Rain, I've been totally excited about this game. I've been wanting to buy a PS3 for quite a while now - mostly because it has a Bluray-drive, so I can finally watch HD-movies on my flat screen. Of course it also has the benefit of games, internet, hard drive for storing music and video files. That's why I wouldn't go out and just buy a bluray-player.
Yesterday though - I finally bought my PS3 with 250 GB HDD and started playing around with it. The first order of business was to download a demo of Heavy Rain. I played through 2 whole scenes of the game last night, and I was completely hooked from the start! Awesome graphics and voice-over. The controls are also very different from normal point 'n' click adventures as Fred mentioned. I really like the way I control the characters and how fast-paced action is handled with the controller. It demanded a certain concentration, control and memory of where the buttons are located, because things can suddenly go pretty fast
Yesterday I wanted to buy the game, but found the price too high in the stores. The prices was 500-550 DKK (66-73€ Euros). Tonight I'm definitely buying the full game online where I can buy it for "only" 53€. I can't wait!
Oh and btw. ... I agree with EVERYTHING Fred said

been following Heavy Rain for years and have barely been able to put it down to go to work after picking it up. Amazing game and brings be back to the days when I first played the Tex series.
If you are a Tex fan you have to play this game and I hope it is very successful and brings a sort of rebirth of adventure games in the near future.
Heavy Rain gave me the itch to play the Tex series again and I came back here for info on how to get them up and running on Windows 7 and now I see them for sale on GOG...downloading now

This was my most anticipated title of this year. My PS3 broke a month ago so i sent it in to be repaired. I got it back Thursday and picked up Heavy Rain. Sony didn't fix anything
It's sitting on my desk taunting me! ><

Just one day it started switching off, as in the power would be completely cut to the machine. I couldn't have it on for more than 5 mins without this happening (not being able to backup my game saves because of this issue made the situation worse).
I get it back Thursday, buy Heavy Rain. Before i install, i decide to watch the latest Simpsons streaming from my PC on my PS3. It shuts off completely. I was pretty mad =/
As far as i can tell, it seems they had it for a month, wiped the hard drive, and sent it back ><

Ouch, they wiped the hard drive but did nothing for the problem... Yeah I'd be pissed too...
