Playing Tex Murphy Games In Newer Windows Systems

Is there any way to play a Tex game (like Pandora Directive) in either Windows 2000 or Windows Vista? I got the game back in 1996 when it came out for Windows 95, which I no longer have that computer. I have tried everything to get it playing on one of my new computers. I have one computer with Windows 2000 and another with Windows Vista. It says I must exit completely to DOS, which I can't seem to do on these newer operating systems. I think one error may have said something about it must be in full screen. I managed to get the game installed on the computer with Windows 2000 but when it goes to the music setup my mouse doesn't scroll on the screen for some reason. This is my all time favorite game ever and I decided to break it out to play again. Hard to believe this game was made 14 years ago. I have yet to see a better game made to this date. I sure hope there will be another Tex adventure in FMV again. If I had the money I'd donate it just to make it happen. FMV were the best games ever and they stopped making them. But, anyways, back to the subject. Does anyone know how to get the game running on Windows 2000 or Windows Vista?
You have to use a little neat programme called Dosbox.

There are literally hundreds of posts concerning this problem.

1. download dosbox and install.
2. start dosbox
3. on the top of the dosbox window some basic commands are shown

Can't really remember the rest at the moment, but as I said alot of topic concerning this.

Oh, and welcome to this board.
Blakers,

If you don't mind spending $10 you can buy Pandora Directive bundled with DOSbox from www.gog.com. The game creators have put the Tex Murphy games there for people to run on their new computers. I've gotten them to run my computer with Windows 7. You just download the game, install it, and it runs without you having to swap discs.

Another person mentioned that it only works for 32 bit Windows so if you've got a 64-bit OS that won't work.

Your other alternative is install a Virtual Computer software on your machine to emulate Windows 95 and then you can install on the Virtual machine to run Pandora.

If you are also interested the Chris Jones and Aaron Conners have started new computer game company called Big Finish games www.bigfinishgames.com. They have released 2 hidden object style games.

You've come to the right place for answers...

If you are able to repurchase the games, then my first Advice would be to go to www.gog.com and purchase them... You can get there by clicking the Banner at the top of any page on this website or through the link I just provided you...

ALL 5 Tex Murphy games are available for purchase and Download and are already setup to run, without CDs...

If you are unable to purchase them then my 2nd advice would be to go to the following website and follow the instruction there...

I advise you to Purchase the games first if you are able to do so, because by doing so you will be supporting the Original Creators, Chris Jones and Aaron Connors... And by supporting them you will be supporting the Comeback of Tex Murphy...

www.bigfinishgames.com is a company that has been started by Aaron and Chris in hopes to raise the funds required to film and program a New Tex Murphy Adventure...

If you are in need of any further help, Please don't hesitate to come back... In fact you can come back any time and join us for some fun conversations and discussions over in the General Forum...

Oh, of course gog.com would be a nice alternative as well.
haha. Looks like we all jumped to respond to this one. Yes Blakers we love welcoming new members to our community and we love talking about Tex.

Ok, thanks for all the help. I will probablly buy the games to help out the creators b/c I would love to see another Tex game. But, I really hope they make it in FMV like the last three and not the silly cartoon graphics of today's games.

So, what are the two hidden object games? My gf likes these type games. So, maybe I will buy her these.
These games are called Three Cards to Midnight and Three Cards to Dead... At least, if I remember correctly, not really my type of games but they are pretty good.
Yes we are all longing for a future Tex game. We don't know if it will ever happen or not but we try to keep hope alive.

Yes these two new hidden object games do have a strong story behind them as you would expect from AC and CJ. Sadly they were not FMV but the graphics weren't too bad. The 2nd game had much improved graphics from the first one. Try the free demos and see what you think. It's hidden object with word association so it's kinda weird. But they do have a pleasant surprise in them. Three Cards to Midnight was first and Three Cards to Dead Time is the sequel.

AC has stated that they are hoping to start work on a new adventure game for their next attempt.
