SUCCESS
after many years of pulling my hair out I have finally played overseer dvd version without constant crashing. windows 7 would you beleive.
first crash Anasazi Ruins crossing the chasm, unfortunately a unrecoverable crash,
only option here was loading a saved game or change the tex.ini file back to cd (disk 3) & then changing back to dvd. changing from hardware to software in config panel no longer works on windows 7.
real excited I got this far.

I love the DVD version for the video clarity... if only they used progressive video instead of interlaced to make it more film like and less TV like. Oh well, I am thinking of actually re-rendering the video files on the Overseer DVD to be h.264 format which should run naively with any Windows machine post Vista. See how I go.

Cool. I seem to recall Overseer was the only one with vob files.
I imagine it's harder to get the video from UKAM or Pandora. Has anybody extracted those files or do you just have to play the game and record the video as it plays?

a guy who posted on gog forum states he has great sucess with the dvd conversion.
Convert the files on the list to standard mpeg1 with the same aspect ratio as the original streams and replace the files in their appropriate folders. Haven't tried with the gog version, but it should work, the actual game is the same on the cd and dvd version except for the video files. You should not change the extensions on the files. The game will still demand that you select an MPEG2 decoder card, but the DVD Express option supports mpeg1 decoding without a hardware support so you should select that.
I personally used Final Cut and Compressor, but free tools like TMPEncoder, http://www.tmpgenc.net/, should work just as fine.
they actually then burnt a new disk with the converted files but as they are larger it seemed to work as an imaged dvd disk.
the reason they converted to mpeg1 was so they could do away with dvd express.

well success didn't last long, got to big jim slade place & I can't go any further.
God I hate this dvd, the cd/hd version I have is so great why would anyone want to put themselves through this nightmare. right the dvd does look better but in windowed screen it doesn't look half bad.
you just can't enjoy the game with dvd as you are always on edge waiting for the next crash.
I wish someone could just improve the video pictures on the cd version & everyone would be happy.

Would that be possible if the original footage was used???plumgas wrote:I wish someone could just improve the video pictures on the cd version & everyone would be happy.
Is it possible using the original footage to recreate the game {so-to-speak}, using something other than DVD Express???
If so, who would want to take the time to do that???
