Okay, so I'm 27 and way past the point where most people get their driver's license, but today I got mine. And yes, this was my first attempt at getting it.

I'm very relieved to have it over with, and kinda proud that I didn't mess it up

Off to find a car, then!

Well congratulations Fred. Getting to drive on your own is a big deal no matter how old you are. Good luck on finding some fancy wheels (or at the very least affordable). :)

Don't feel so bad....

I had mine and lost it, got it back in Dec of 2006 with a condition and then had it removed in Dec of 07.

Although I only just started driving again last week cause I couldn't afford insurance.

Let's just say I was young and did something very stupid and have really learned my lesson.
Took that incident to finally grow up.

I'm not feeling bad at all buddy :D

Gonna go look for a suitable vehicle on monday, and if I ring me up a purchase, I'll have pictures of the new-found Fredmobile coming to your local unofficial tex webpage in the near future.

Looking forward to that maiden voyage!

Good show Fred. Get yourself some wheels, and off on the first Road Trip Where You Are the Hero.
Part-Time Nomad
grats Fred. Now you will know the balance of good driving music cancelling out all the idiots on the road (it's a delicate thing to find). :)

Excellent news, Fred! Good luck on the search for a suitable mode of transportation.
Awesome news, Congrats... But might I ask as to why you've waited so long???

From age 18-25 I couldn't afford it. Started taking my license in early 2008, but with nobody to help me drive at all on my spare time I was down to just the official driving lessons.

And a driving lesson in Norway costs you $100. Or about £60. Somewhere thereabouts.

I'm glad to be done. Gonna stop by my driver's school on monday, drop them off a bottle of good wine, to thank them for sticking by me for two years.

Good for you, Fred. A hundred bucks!? Wow! Here in the US most people have the advantage of taking driving lessons in high school. Don't know if they still do that what with cutbacks and low budgets, but it sure beat paying someone to teach you to drive.

I know at least in GA that they had eliminated high school driving classes before I was in high school (15 years or so ago). I think it's a shame, but I think that budget cuts, etc. have killed it off.
They don't do that around here Jim... I had to go to a Private Driving School, but the whole schooling process, with driving time included only cost 180 bucks...

Glad you got it taken care of Fred, especially at those prices... My ass would have probably just bought a scooter or something and said the hell with driving...

Yes I took Driver's Ed at my high school, but by the time my youngest sister was learning to drive she had to take lessons from a private company.

In 4 months I'm gonna turn 30 which means that I've had my driver's licens for about 11½ years now. In Denmark you can only get a license from when you're 18 years old, but I had my mind set that I wanted the license right away. Luckily I could afford it back then, but it still cost me 8.500 DKK (about $1.500). I think, today's driving schools still have prices that high or even a bit higher since they changed the rules only a few years after I got my license. I only had to have 10 driving lessons whereas today they need to have at least 15. Also - if you flunk the test, you have to pay a fee to be able to take the test again. The same goes for the final driving test.

There was an example of a person here in DK who had to pay 15-20.000 DKK for his/her license because he/she flunked her tests many times before she eventually passed.

Anyway, congratulations Fred! It's great to hear that you passed in your first attempt :)

As for wheels I have to say that I'm driving a pretty dull car. But it's roomy and with a young daughter I have to be able to bring a lot of stuff not to mention a baby carriage, so I'm driving a Ford Focus 1,8 TDCi Trand station car from 12/2004 like the one below.
