An amazing vocalist to be sure. He was probably one of the greatest singers of our time, regardless of genre.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Not a Sabbath fan myself nor am I big on Metal (apart from Zeppelin and Metallica) but I definitely know enough to understand Dio's legacy. I was actually watching a heavy metal documentary recently which he featured when they were performing at the Wacken Metal festival in Germany. He shared an interesting anecdote with the origins of the devil horns (also known as the maloik). Apparently, when he had first migrated from Italy to America, when walking down the street with his grandmother, if ever she saw someone who was threatening she would raise her hands with the devil horns as a means of repelling alleged evil. An interesting irony given the satanic stigma that is usually attached to it. Instead, it's the opposite.

A sad day for fans, no doubt.
