POLL!!!!! What's the best soundtrack
My vote is for UKM. The soundtrack is so sexy and Jazzy! For the early '90's they really managed to make midi sound cool. The bluesyness of the whole thing just adds to the ambience of the 40's-esque landscape. The two main themes (The fast one in Tex's office and the lazy Chandler Avenue theme) are perfect trademark themes for Tex and his issues etc. Especially the distinct and blatant references to the Ironside theme!!!
But why oh why did they not keep these two tunes for the Pandora Directive. It would have been great to hear them again, possibly remastered. I know, I know, the mise-en-scene was much more dramatic and less slapstick than the first. But for me, after UKM it just didn't feel right. They really hit the nail on the head (Sorry, british euphemism) with the tunes for that one and I think they could have made the feel of the second game similar to UKM, making it seem more like a sequel and less like a re-hash of the first after they'd learned by their mistakes.
Overseer of course is much along the same lines as Pandora, music wise, except for the richie havens tracks towards the end (Which are bitchin to say the least). But don't you think for this game (the first out of all the tex series to include real music as oposed to a purely MIDI soundtrack) it would have been breathtaking to hear a live recorded rendition of the original themes from UKM played by a real Jazz Band. I'm tingling just thinking about it!
That said, I could of course be very very wrong about the whole thing. Look forward to the poll results. If you vote though, please say why. I hate when people just vote idly and never actually analyse the question!
Cheers dudes

I've gotta say that I really enjoyed the ambient music in Pandora a lot more. The theme for Tex's office sets the perfect mood to me. The orchestral non-MIDI tracks are also very good, and not as dated as UAKM. But that's just me
Like I just mentioned on another thread, I've never heard Overseer's MIDI - how does it sound? Can't anyone extract it?

Here are 3 MIDI files from overseer:
PI Theme
The Lab
The Cabin
The original orchestrated version of the PI Theme can be found HERE ...which sounds a whole lot better.
...and of course here is the rest of the Soundtrack files from all 3 games if you need them: http://www.provisionaustralia.com.au/Lo ... oundtrack/
I personally enjoyed Pandora's soundtrack the most... even though UAKM had some great walk about tracks that really set the mood, I think the orchestrations in The Pandora Directive were brilliant and set the scene perfectly. A very close second is Overseer... especially with the tracks: 'Let The Match Begin' and 'Checkmate'... they still give me shivers!

I guess Im just different.... I really enjoyed the soundtrack for overseer. Although pandora had some great orchestrations. But still, the Tex's Office stheme from uakm is my all time favorite of ANY game

I hear ya... if you were unfortunate enough to have a standard sound card back then you missed out on a lot.i'm_melting_i'm_melting wrote:I was impressed how they composed the MIDI soundtrack for Roswell in PD. I couldn't believe what was coming out of my AWE32. The percussion used for things like the approaching alien entity and the choiral sweeps throughout were stunning to hear. Ditto the Mayan temple.
I have an old machine, which as some budget card in it and the Midi sounds like utter trollop... makes me wish I could somehow incorporate the re-mastered soundtrack into the game as MP3 or OGG format.

I've kicked this one around a lot before posting. Overall - and I mean overall - I think the best music comes from Overseer. The other two games have some great music scores, but Overseer is the creme de la creme in my humble opinion.

Alright, I've been banging my head against the wall for a solid hour trying to find "Let The Match Begin" and "Checkmate". This was AFTER a solid hour of trying to find my copy of the Overseer soundtrack CD. I jumped for joy to find Cub's site -- only to find NEITHER SONG THERE.....ARRGH!
[EDIT] It finally occurred to me that maybe I should check an old computer. Found what I was looking for. Thanks anyway!
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

Tex - "Was the picture of me flattering at least?"
Lucia - "Is that even possible?"

Well, the reason why the songs from the Overseer soundtrack are not there is to avoid copyright issues with the CD distributor. The other tracks do not carry the same issue as they were never distributed. But I could always put them up, and if they kick up a stink I will take them down. Leave it with me, I will put them up.RandomManA wrote:Alright, I've been banging my head against the wall for a solid hour trying to find "Let The Match Begin" and "Checkmate". In them meantime I have uploaded my orchestrated versions of some of the Tex Murphy music to the downloads section of this site.

Yeah, well, that was the frustrating part. I do own the soundtrack, I just have no idea where it is. We moved six months ago, so it could pretty much be anywhere in the house. But, I got lucky -- I dug up an old laptop I hadn't used in years, and presto, there some of them were. I would still appreciate a chance to grab them all - but if it's going to cause you legal troubles, I'd rather wait until my disc turns up.
