The neverending story of game crashes in Overseer

Ok...545432346 topics exists on the board about this and i'm too lazy to stream them all.
After several failed attempts on numerous computers, i managed to launch Overseer and to play for a while (btw i return to church for the first time in years next week for that).

Unfortunately, satan still got an eye on me. Every 20 mn of game (or so), the game simply freezes and i have to reboot the system.

My equipment:
Windows xp sp2 (with some nvidia card gforce 5500 something)
overseer dvd
nilo's method methodically followed
lockvideo turned to 1

Dear fellow fans, please help me

The DVD crashes quite a bit... And personally I don't think the Video is All that much better... The game itself is the same, so for Headache reasons it's best to play off the CDs or you could purchase it from GOG and not have to worry about CD Swapping...

There have only been a few accounts of people getting the DVD to run and I think it all has to do with the machine and careful tweaking of this, that, and the other thing... And even then I don't think it was completely Flawlessly...

Well I have to disagree about the video quality that I find quite better (no interlacing, more fps)

Talking about the cd version that I bought years ago, it never worked on my recent pc...

If I got some spare cash for that I will definitely rebuy the whole series on gog (and buy Three Cards to Dead Time which I haven't played yet, I know I know...).

That's okay, I haven't played either of the 3 Cards either... lol
I did buy them and they are installed... lol Just haven't gotten enough time to play through them...

I understand that the Video is better, I played it back in the day on Win98... But with all the Hassles and Headaches, I found it easier to just play the CD version...
It's just way to hard to get Overseer DVD to run smoothly, if not near impossible...

That's a shame but since it was the first game released using that technology (and the pressure they got from the big company)we can't really blame them...

Absolutely not, it was a rushed and pressured project...

2 years ago, I rebuilt an old computer specifically to play Overseer on DVD. I still couldn't make it work. The video would play a bit but stuttered and made the interactive parts of conversations unplayable by hiding buttons somehow. Even with with Windows 98 installed.

I will try again now that I have XP on my main computer.
it's a big headache, just use the cd version. there is a guide called oversseer hd/dvd on the board in the support section

it binds the cd's into one file it was written for vista & xp works perfectly. You just then burn to a dvd disk for installation.

Or spend 9.00 & download from gog, however the version on the board has no crashes & the people on gog have still had problems with the cd version.

just remember overseer does not like dual video cards & duo processors so you need to disable them.

Midi must be muted to stop crashes further in the game. DVD version -crossing the corridor you must change from hardware decoder to software and just move your keyboard arrows keys not the screen mouse & just go up the steps & then it takes to the ladder & then you are over the bug.
