Just a random thought

I know that it took many years for the PayPal donate button on your right to actually work, but now that it does, how often does a site like this need a top up? I mean James could appeal whenever he wants donations, but would it be an idea of having a day, once a year maybe, where we celebrate all things Tex and Forum-y by donating a small amount each?

Tex's birthday would be the obvious date, but then again, does the site need funding? Who knows, but is it worth putting the idea out there that as a present to the big man, his creators and to James, that we unofficially say that let's try to donate once a year, even if it's a few dollars?

I'm just thinking that without a day or a reminder once in a while, we'll all forget to donate or think that the funds are fine and we then forget about it and one day something bad will happen. Or of course if that's unlikely, the money could go to something good for the board.

What are everyone's views? And James - what are yours?

I'm okay with that. It would actually be easier if I could just make regular monthly payments to the board. Does paypal have something like that set up? I don't have a paypal account myself so not sure how that works.

It would be nice if James had a display on the board that would tell us how we are doing for funds. It doesn't have to be a dollar amount. Just a color system: green for all is good, yellow for need some funds, and red for dire straits.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.
The PayPal button, as far as I'm concerned, has always been there as an afterthought, and the continued operation of this site is in no way dependent on donation funds. The only real cost associated with the site is the monthly hosting bill, which I assure is well under control. Of course, I always greatly appreciate the occasional donations that do come though, but don't be concerned that the site is in any danger of shutting down without them!
Wow! The Iowa farm boy continues to amaze. I, for one, deeply appreciate James' generosity.
