OK, so here's the deal. The other day I set up a new user on my computer but did not follow through on all the details as I am not very bright when it comes to details on my computer. Yesterday we had a power outage and I had to restart my computer. When the password screen came up it was the new user. So, I typed in the password, hit the green arrow and...a different desktop appeared!!! All my files, folders, downloads, favorites....everything I have done and saved for years are gone! I freaked, to put it mildly.
At any rate, I logged off and signed in on my Guest user which gave me the same desktop!!! Apparently my other info was stored under Administrator - I think. But, it seems I had assigned my new user as the admin. So, how do I get back my original desktop? I am really desperate here and need some good resolution.
If you can help me please give me specific details. Also, if needs be, call me at (edited). Thanks to any and all who respond.

If I still used a PC I'd call you. I think there is probably some option under control panel to change the status of users to administrator etc
Also if you use windows explorer, there is probably somewhere where you can navigate to the users folders and access files etc.
However I'm sure that if you get yourself a cuppa, there will be a better response on this board before you know it.

Plumgas, you should be able to call from Australia... Cub has called Jim a couple of times, in fact I believe once was within the last year... I don't imagine that it is the Cheapest of calls, but it can be done... Unless you have some sort of restriction on your phone...plumgas wrote:thank god you rang sam as I didn't think I could ring from australia.

Can't reverse charges on a Cell phone in the states, so your call wouldn't go through if you tried that... A cell is basically all I use... Having to carry 2 of them is a pain in the ass though, but I'm not allowed to use the one for personal use...

You're welcome Jim. I'm always happy to do what I can to earn some Good Guy Points.
