2 x 750 gb hard disk
2x sata dvd-rw
4gb ram
GTS250 1 gb video card

had to cut things down a bit as it was getting too expensive. going to slip in a blu-ray burner but a $200 at my supplier I thought it was a bit rich.

Well that depends if you intend to burn a lot of blue ray discs. Right now isn't the media still a bit expensive too?
All and all not bad. I'd probably bump the ram up from 4 to 8. You can never be too pretty, too rich, or have too much ram.

4 gigs of ram. I still remember bumping a computer from 4 MEGS of ram up to 8. And I could play Day of the Tentacle without my screen lagging.
Good times.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
yes the blu-ray disk are too expensive at the moment & I have a standalone blu-ray recorder.
I had 6gb ram (twin pack) this is DDR3 which is quite expensive & my supplier had a special for a combo price of board/ram & cpu so I decided to select that which saved me $100.00.
I have also cut down the price of parts by $200.00 so far so swapping things around. So far it's come to $1500 & saved a bit as the hard disks I purchased a few months ago so I can make good use of them.

UAKM had a card in it if I remember that showed the difference in graphics depending on how much ram you had.
Bump that 4GB of RAM up to 8GB... trust me, you'll thank me later. And with RAM cheap as chips nowadays, it's a fair investment.
Also, why not spend the extra $10 or so and get 2X 1TB? Western Digital's range in that capacity are great performers... but avoid their GREEN range. Whilst they are better for the environment with lower power consumption, they throttle a lot and you will find the short freezes while they wait to spin up annoying after time. I would also recommend WD over Seagate any day.
The rest looks good. The GTS 250 is an OK card for that price... but if you can afford it I would seriously look into a GTX 460 (not the 465 though)... they are new and perform extremely well for their price point. In fact I think they come out tops in terms of the price/performance ratio.
Good luck!

yeah the gtx460 looks a good card but it's a double width card but it seems like all the later ones are that wide. I only looked at the GTS250 due to being cheaper & I think it's the same card as the GTX9800. I have a fairly new 9600gt extreme card but not sure about using it on this board.
Anyway the 9600 is really only a basic level card.
the ram will only help if you are running a 64 bit machine, 32 bit will only utilise 3gb.
I am hope to use my existing drives due to them being new - samsung spin points
one is being used as backup drive. the main drive has windows 7 32 bit so I wasn't going to format the drive until later on down the track.
dual booting with xp & win 7 just for those programs that don't like win 7.

I will after the upgrade but my windows 7 installed is a 32 bit so I want the machine setup first a then migrate to 64 bit after that.
I might even format my backup drive & install the 64 bit on that & then use the other 750gb in my sata enclosure until everything is moved over.
had a look at the ram & it should only cost another $100.00 to get the 4x 2gb modules

Great specs... if you mobo supports triple channel DDR3, 6GB is a good option to take full advantage of this feature. And glad to see you are option for the 2x 1TBs and the GTX460. Good value for money. Very solid machine indeed!plumgas wrote:okay I just order the parts, this was the finally list

THESE NEW BOARDS ARE REALLY TRICKY, you must be careful of which slot you place the ram modules & you set in the the bios & also can change the settings.
you will be surprised of the amount of settings in the bios , completely different than the standard bios.
also now I have put the red light out on the verandah to pay for the thing.
