UAKM - GOG version thanks!
Okay I just logged into my account from both Firefox and Internet explorer.
I downloaded the 2mb setup file for Pandora from both places without any errors. That is interesting the only option is browser download instead of the GOG downloader, but it still works for me either way.
Sally,
Have you done a quick virus scan on your machine just in case? Or do you have a checker on your virus program that checks the files you download? You could also try disabling your virus scanner temporarily. You shouldn't be getting a corrupted file unless the file you are pointing to is not the same as the file that I'm pointing to.

I would try with your xp machine to see what happens as it could be UAC on vista.
I do remember not being able to download from gog a long time ago with vista & I had clear out the cache from the gog download manager but since it's being used at the moment that can't be the problem.
Using firefox may the shot as it has it's own download manager. I use internet download manager with IE.

Hey everyone.....
Thanks so much for all the helpful replies.
I didn't try downloading the 2nd file first because it is so huge and would take so long. I considered it but then I had to think about sitting here for hours and then finding out I still couldn't download the first one. That would be so frustrating I might become suicidal. (just kidding!)
Okay, I'll work on the UAC possibility. This is quite probably the answer because I've not only had the "set-up file corrupt" on Pandora I'm having the same thing with Gabriel Knight. It's got to be my computer.
I wish I had the XP in my office instead of the bedroom. I think I might very well switch them. I love the huge monitor on the Vista machine but I like XP OS so much more.
I could be wrong but I don't think a virus is the problem. Except I've heard people say Vista IS a virus. Maybe it is.

Sally

Yeah I have to admit I tried Vista for about a year and had so much trouble with it, I downgraded back to XP. When Windows 7 finally came out, I waited a bit to make sure people liked it before I upgraded to 7.
BTW, if anybody wants my old copy of Vista, they are welcome to it!

GOG the lightbulb finally turned "ON" and I've managed to download Pandora without difficulty. It's up and running smoothly.
Several posters told me they thought I was trying to 'run' the program and that it couldn't work without combining the files. I thought they meant I was trying to 'play' it. I kept repeating that I was unable to 'run' it because I couldn't download it in the first place.
Finally it got through my thick skull that I need to click on the 'save' button instead of the 'run' button. Of course, once I did that everything was peachy.
I hope anyone out there who might be having the same problem will learn from my knucklheaded mistake.
Love/kisses/hugs and heartfelt thanks to all of you. You've been wonderful. I owe you!

Lynne...I didn't know that! I thought I was supposed to "run" them. After I downloaded Pandora this afternoon I went to my documents file to run the set-up/install . I wondered then why I didn't see the UAKM files there that I had downloaded the day before.
Should I go back and download UAKM again? The game is working fine for me even though I didn't "save" it. I guess I just assumed that it would save automatically.
What is the downside of using the run feature instead of save?
Thanks in advance.

UAKM isn't in your Download Folder because it is a single file and you ran the install directly from the server... The game is on your computer, because it installed it from the server... If for whatever reason you were to uninstall UAKM you would need to go back to GOG and run the Download process again... With Pandora you can just go to your download folder and run it from there...
If you are like me and keep your Tex related stuff backed up on a Flash Drive, then yes I would recommend going back to download the file... Otherwise, as long as you remember you log in and password for GOG you can repeatedly download anything you've purchased forever...

Bafitis, thanks for the helpful information. I'm almost ashamed to admit I don't even know what a flash drive is. I will look it up.
I remember back when I used earlier versions of Windows that file saving, moving, copying etc., seemed fairly simple. When I started using Vista, it all seems so confusing and so I have basically quit trying to learn.
For example, several times over the past few days I've read hints from posters about installing a game by using the "Start/Run/Install/" feature. I was always able to do that with Windows 95/98/XP. Now, with Vista when I click on the Start button, I can't find the Run feature. I've looked and looked but haven't found it yet. It all became so frustrating I take the simplest steps I can find to use programs.
That's why I chose Run instead of Save when I first went to GOG to get UAKM and then later it was the reason I had so much trouble trying to d/l Pandora.
I'm seriously thinking of upgrading to Windows 7. What do you think?
By the way, I've got an old IBM in a box in my garage. It has Windows 95 and DOS 6. It was the first machine I played UAKM on. I loved that old computer. Sometimes I'm tempted to unpack it and use it again.

Sally,
Don't feel embarrassed. There's a lot more stuff to know these days. We always love helping people. Tex taught us to strive for getting Good Guy Points.
1. A flash drive also known as a USB stick is temporary portable storage.
2. I know what you mean about the "Run..." option not being there anymore more in Vista. It's been moved. It's also been moved in Windows 7 as well. I think you click Start and now there are two menus side by side.
Right click on the bar at the bottom of your desktop and choose "Properties". Click on the "Start Menu" tab. There should be a choice for "Classic Start Menu" or "Customize". Click Customize. There should be an option for "Display Run". I'm doing this from vague memory as I have XP on my work computer and Windows 7 at home. My comments should be approximately right.
3. It's always best to choose "Save" instead of "Run" in my opinion. That way you don't have to re-download and makes it easier to rerun it later on.
4. I'd recommend upgrading from Vista to 7. Windows 7 is a much kinder OS to the user than Vista. You have a couple of options for you.
A. The Windows 7 Upgrade Family Pack Home Premium ($150). Let's you upgrade up to 3 computers to Windows 7 from their existing Windows install.
B. A single Windows 7 upgrade Home Premium package costs ($130) so the difference in price between A and B make A a better deal.
C. A single FULL version of Windows 7 Home Premium ($180). You can put this into a blank computer without any OS.
I personally think the Professional and Ultimate versions are overkill for an average user.
5. I had an old Windows 98 machine I saved just for Tex. He worked good but after a while I finally decided to let him go. Now that GOG has fixed it so you can run Tex on the newer machines the old machines are no longer necessary. I sent my off to be recycled since it was just taking up space in my junk room.
So in short, please keep coming back to talk to us Sally. We love making new friends.

Sam, I'm will go to MS Windows website and look into downloading Windows 7.
This will mean overwriting my current Vista, right? It's a little scary. I'm such a nervous type I'll have my fingernails bitten down to the quick worrying that Tex and all my other 'stuff' will still be there when it's done.
I will also look at getting a flash drive. Without knowing much about it, I assume that anything stored on it will be available to run on a new computer if I decide to upgrade from the one I have. Is that right?
Thanks for the suggestions and replies. I'll let you know when I've done the scary deed.
