90s(or in the style 90s) adventure games
I must say that adventure games that came out in the 90s were the best, adventures that come out now just don't have that special feel to it, except maybe Runaway(it felt A LOT like it came out around 1996) and some others. But anyway i wanna play ALLLL games like that
, i have a lot of them alredy, mostly FMV and quite a lot of cartoon styled ones too. But what i'm asking you is if you know of any good 90s(or in the style 90s) adventure games that you think are a must (except Tex Murphy ones
) for a adventure gamer.
Off the top of my head:
Grim Fandango (A must. My favorite of all time.)
The Monkey Island series (exclude #4, it's the black sheep of the family)
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (It's Indy!)
The Dig (Beautiful atmosphere)
Sam'n Max: Hit the Road (Hilarious)
Loom (Classic Lucasarts)
Gabriel Knight - the series (Brilliant storytelling)
Phantasmagoria 1 & 2 (gore and blood and horror stuff)
Beneath a Steel Sky (It's free!)
The Quest games - Police, Space and King's (I'll throw in Leisure Suit Larry too)
Lighthouse (Hauntingly beautiful)
Torin's Passage (A nostalgic childhood memory for me)
Project: ICEMAN (It's in the same style as Sierra's quest games)
The Legend of Kyrandia - series (Very entertaining gameplay mechanics!)
Full Throttle (A hard-hitting, high octane action thrillride. With motorcycles. And Mark Hamill!)
Day of the Tentacle (I got a t-shirt with Purple Tentacle on it)
Ripper (It's got Christopher Walken)
Toonstruck (It's got Christopher Lloyd)
Black Dahlia (It's got Dennis Hopper)
Bad Mojo (Creepy!)
Sanitarium (A wonderful story told in a mesmerizing way)
Zak Mckraken and the Alien Mindbenders (Old school!)
Myst (Thanks to Cub for turning me onto this series. Mindboggling and beautiful. Myst, not Cub...)
Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist (It's got my name written all over it.)
Prisoner of Ice (Make Lovecraft. Not Warcraft.)
Discworld 1 & 2 (It's Discworld!)
Aaaand I'm sure my faithful cohorts who wander these dark and dusty corridors of adventure gaming fandom can come up with a few more for ya.
-Fred
Although, as an addendum, I was wondering if Planescape: Torment would fit in here. Sure, it's a CRPG, but it does have a certain feel of adventure game to it as well...

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Fred got all the one's I would have said and more, but I know of these, that I'm not sure fit but here they are.
System Shock (1994 DOS/Mac) (also SS2, but they are more like action-adventure games, and I'm sure you may already know of them)
Countdown (1990 DOS) (appears to be hard to find and I can't even find gameplay videos :/ )
The X-Files Game (1998 PC/Mac/PS1) (May only appeal to fans of the show, it's basically an episode, only with some point and click elements)
Deja Vu 1 & 2 (actually was an 80's game, PC/DOS/NES/Mac/(there is actually a Game Boy Color version that includes both games on the same cartridge it looks sort of different but same game)
Okay, I tried to only include PC games, but you may want to check this one out too
Shadowrun (1993 SNES/ there is also a version for Sega Genesis which I hear was the better RPG but they are completely different and the SNES version is more similar to the classic adventure game genre, and to me looks better)
Snatcher (another 80's one/Sega Saturn/Sega CD/Playstation/PC?)

Just a quick look off of everyone's list I would have to add:
Spycraft: The Great Game
All of the Wing Commanders
All Police Quest, Space Quest, Kings Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry
Sacred Ground
Urban Runner
Blade Runner
Safe Cracker {if you're a puzzle person}
Crimson Skies
Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster {it has Tim Curry}
The Mummy
Red Alert {and all expansions and sequels}
I'm sure there are plenty more, I'd have to go pull out my boxes of Computer games from that era... Once I get my computer room remodeled and set up, I plan to have a Win95/98 Machine for all those games...
