The Mr. Fusion provides a nuclear reaction to provide the 1.21 Gigawatts to replace the plutonium or the lightning bolt from the first movie.

It would actually be a pretty cool invention if they could really make a Mr. Fusion. It would save us tons of money and trouble with nuclear fission power plants that we have now.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.
Power sources replace each other all the time... We weren't given the technical specifics behind it... We were just told that that was what Doc used for Fuel now...

Yeah I know about the Flying Cars, but they just aren't quite like what BTTF showed us they were... There's one that is stored in the same hangar as my Son's Civil Air Patrol keeps their plane...
Neat looking contraption, but I'm not so sure it will replace cars as we know them... Plus the way they are built right now, you need a pilot's license to operate one... And those aren't easy or cheap to get...

And personally I would much rather have the Vertical Takeoff and Landing capabilities as in BTTF...
I mean they had the vertical lift in that 2nd clip of yours, but it didn't do anything except hover in one place, they didn't go anywhere with it... And the amount of fuel these prototypes use is just very uneconomical...
If we had any of these that are currently out there, we'd have to fill up the tank every day or every other day... Not an expense I think people are willing to take on...

Yay to flying cars with vertical take offs.

One more thing concerning my previous post.

If you consider what the doc said in his explanation in part 2.

He explains that Bif gave himself the almanac and that if he traveled to the future, it would be different and he would be put into an asylum. He wouldn't run into the past self of him and Marty that were previously in the future because the time line shifted. They aren't there anymore. Their past selves are in the alternate time line.

Therefore, Doc can take the time machine that was left in 1885 now that it has been changed by him being saved and not affect the alternate time line of past Marty going after him.

Does this make sense?
Matt
Actually now that you bring that up, with Biff taking the Time Machine back, shouldn't coming back to the Future had taken him to the Alternate Time Line??? Therefore the Time Machine shouldn't have been there for Doc and Marty to come back to after going to get Jennifer... Biff shouldn't have been able to come back to that future, he should have ended up in the one where he was rich and stuff...

Oh boy we're starting to poke time holes all over BTTF...

Funny you mention that... this is EXACTLY what happens... but the scene was removed before the final film.

In the deleted scene, shortly after Biff comes back, he becomes very ill almost instantly. He crawls behind a nearby dumpster and collapses onto the ground, a fades away into oblivion, much like Marty was about to on stage in he first film. See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2NBw-ZSQ98

The reason why this scene was removed was becuase it was proving to be far too confusing for the audience. But for folks like us, it was meant to represent that fact that Biff was the only person not meant to be where he was at that time after he had altered the timeline. And you are going to ask then why did the doc and Marty not fade away too? The world did automatically change around them, but only slightly, and they were not effected, only Biff. So essentially, Biff became the victim of his own self-inflicted paradox, becuase in the documentary, Bob Gale states that in 1985A, Lorraine eventually shoots Biff dead, so there is not Biff that survives until 2015 from the alternate 1985 path.

I hate it when studios think something is too "complicated" for the "audience".

I don't remember seeing him collapse, but I do remember him looking ill and slamming up against a dumpster...

Still, I think the Doc could have Salvaged the Time Machine from the mine and then put it back for Marty to find in 1955...

Anyone know how old the Doc's kids were??? I know the one looked maybe 4 or 5, but I can't place the older one...

I say the oldest one was about 9 or 10.

And the part of disappearing was removed. It was a deleted scene.
I was actually going to mention this until i saw Cub already did.

It was also explained that time ripples forward.... so it doesn't change instantaneously. It takes a bit of time for the ripples to catch up. This is also demonstrated in Frequency (also a very good altering time film)

So he has time to travel to their future before it changes, provided he does so before the ripple gets there.

Doc and Marty are not affected because they are past travelers in the future. They could have been affected only if Bif changing the time line killed George or Lorraine before Marty was born. Obviously, he ended up being born cause he didn't disappear.

Now, this could have killed future Marty, but not while Marty was actually in the future, because he would have to go back to the altered past and be killed before future Marty would be killed. The travelers future is never fully predetermined because wherever the traveler is, is his present and whatever he does can change the future right before his eyes.

Say Marty was killed in the future, Doc would see the future shift all around him and Future Marty and his family would not exist. And Jennifer could be married to someone different living in a completely different place.
Matt
Yes time Ripples... In some movie there are ripples in others things are instant like in Timecop...

Have any of you every gotten that feeling that you swear things use to be different??? I've gotten it a couple of times over the years...

hmm.. no not really.

I have had the feeling of deja vu,

Where I remember an event after seeing it. As if it was a memory.
Matt
Yeah Deja Vu is weird, and sometimes you can feel you've had it for the 10th time for one event.
