Tintin the movie: A Spielberg and Jackson Production.

My dream is finally coming true:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tintin_(film)

This film has been in talks for a while but they have finally given to green light to a script and a production. I'm a huge fan of the original Herge comics, plus I have the Nelvana Animated TV series on DVD. I've been a fan since I was about 8, so it's going back quite a while.

Anyone else here a fan?

My favourite story would have to be the two parter 7 Crystal Balls/Prisoners of the Sun. That to me is the story that must have inspired legends like Indiana Jones. It's so good that Tintin will finally get the cinematic treatement it deserves.

Interestingly, the film looks as though it is motion capture. I don't know much about it or what it looks like but I imagine it combines anime and real life photography. Kind of like Sin City, 300 or Beowolf?

Yeah I'm pretty sure Motion Capture is what they call that... It's not bad, but I really don't see the point myself... All of the Motion Capture 3-D movies I've seen have all been really dark in contrast, so sometimes it is hard to see what is going on...

According to your link it isn't set to come out until 2011, that's a good ways off, lets hope they don't have any setbacks...

Certainly a pioneer of adventure comics with some mystery thrown into it. The tv series and some of the books aged a bit poorly, but if the core material is handled well the modernisation could bring it back its original shine, and then some.

I like the cast so far, Bell has made his proofs. I like him a lot more than Shia, who feels like a product. I'm wary of Spielberg, but he's usually good in those types of movies. I just hope he doesn't make it too much family candy.

The cast list looks interesting and I hear that they have signed themselves up for at least second movie as well.

And interesting to see a lot of Brits in the cast. We Brits normally play the bad guys.

...brainstorm! I have to make a redubbing of Star Wars with all the evil british talking switched to broken nazi german-english.

No idea about Tintin, but Spielberg and Jackson are a dream team of sorts. I read on the wiki link that Spielberg is directing the first, Jackson expects to direct a sequel, and they both hope to co-direct (?!) a third.

I was a fan of Tin Tin.

But it was when i was so young that I don't remember much of the stories.

I am anxiously awaiting this and the Hobbit.

I too heard that Spielberg would direct the first and that Jackson would do the second. The joint thing on the third sounds a bit much - does Spielberg co direct with anyone other than Lucas?

Here's the first images from the first film:

Personally I think the aesthetics of the film are a little too clean and polished. Haddock is well illustrated, but the look of it lacks a certain noir grit that the graphic novels and television series had. I'll still check it out but for now it seems more focused on a younger audience than family or young adult.
bloody hell, they made tin tin look 12. I was under the understanding that he was at least in his late teens- possibly too young for war (I mean it is set during the early 1900s).

The captain looks fairly close though, and the dog is right on the money ;)

This better not suck! I was such a fan as a kid (and Asterix- lucky the Asterix movie was actually awesome and 100% true to the comic- even if it was live action.)

Still I'm sorta glad they went CG this time, as I just know a holywood tin tin would have sucked- and it would have been not long before they cast Shia Le Boufhead as tin tin.. just to piss us all off again.. it was bad enough they put him in Wall Street.

If you haven't seen Asterix yet you should, the actors that did that film were 100% spot on for the roles, you could literally feel the characters in their performances.. amazingly good job and I loved the fact the entire thing was in French (as they're Gaul, so it MAKES SENSE! :D)

Man I LOVED the Asterix comics, looks like I'll have to check the flick out. Totally unaware it existed. Thanks for the heads up.
And yes, I agree Shia is a detriment to any film.
At least it looks pretty Bright in contrast... Disney's Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey looked kind of dark in Contrast... Great movie, but still a little on the dark side...

I have to admit, until Joel mentioned it, I had never heard of it... The only Tin I knew of was Rin Tin Tin, but I'm sure you all know that was a Dog... It would be nice to see a new movie of Rin Tin Tin though...

Or how about the Sweedish Chef:

"Fader! Thet is enooof! Reeleese-ahem et oooonce! Bork! Bork! Bork!"
Never too late for coffee, never too early for beer.
Swedish Chef would make an excellent Yoda.
