Ubisoft liberate users of DRM

If I recall correctly, Ubisoft's decision to implement DRM whereby a constant internet connection was required caused quite a stir around here. Well, the new year brings in a welcome gift as been disbanded. This means you will be able to play Ubisoft games while being offline without pausing or crashing.

I recently bought Silent Hunter 5 and yeah it was a pain in the ass, it'd keep booting me out of the game when ever I'd loose like a few KBps which is bullshit given I live in Australia, Ubisoft did it purely for US customers and ignored the rest of the world whos internet is still very slow in comparison. I just hope Silent Hunter 5 gets the treatment, its actually a pretty good game but flopped because of the DRM- I think Silent Hunter 5 copped a lot more flack than the other games in that list- and its a shame because its actually pretty great.

I hope this teaches Ubi a lesson, DRM is a worst case scenario, don't put it in your game for the sake of it.
:D That's good news. DRM is a huge pain.
That news makes me very happy, does this apply to all of Ubisoft's games? or just Ubisoft Montreal?
From what I read of the Article, it sounds like Ubisoft period will no longer require the constant internet connection, but you will need to be connected to the internet when you boot up your game...
So you won't be able to take your laptop to a park or something and play a Ubisoft game, because there will be no internet connection when you load the game...

Nearly every game that comes out now does this though, Steam is easily the worst for doing it.

For me this was true between it's inception and roughly 2009. But since then it's actually come a long way in terms of its functionality and overall improvement of the glitches I used to experience:

- It doesn't take as long to unlock or update games

- There's no longer a delay between purchasing games and their appearance on your gaming list

- offline mode works perfectly where in the past it either wouldn't save login details properly or would insist on going online anyway

- the social networking side of it is pretty cool once you get enough of your friends together to use it.

Oh I know, I refuse to use Steam...

I try not to download New games too much, unless I know I'm not going to have that problem...
If I can't own a hard copy, then it can either wait for me or they can do without my money... I have a PlayStation and a Wii, I'm not hurting for games... lol

I practically only use Steam. I love it.
