Game of Thrones

Has anybody seen the first episode? And if so, thoughts?

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I haven't seen it but I have heard good things about it. I'm also a bit of an Ian McShane fan since i'm currently going through Deadwood, so i might pick this up after. See how we go.
I did see it last night, and enjoyed it immensely. I am on a marathon of rereading the books again, I just started AFFC this morning.

I think the casting was excellent, and the acting overall very good. In HD it looked cinematic quality. I worry about the people who haven't read the books keeping up with everything. The "Others" were pretty bad ass, during one of the previews in the last few weeks, I stopped-framed it to get a good look!

As with any book to screen adaption, the missing element is the thoughts behind the actions and words. There's a depth of character that you will never see across the TV. But that's no fault of the producers/directors that are sincerely trying to stay faithful to the source material.

Love love Sean Bean as Eddard, and what I've seen of Little Finger in the previews . BenJen looks EXACTLY as I pictured him in the books. Peter will get more screen time in later episodes, Tyrion and Arya are my favorite characters in the books.

Funny little spoiler story. Several years back I went to a small con that was local to where George RR Martin lives. We were talking for a few minutes and I told him when I read about **** getting hit with ********, I literally threw the book across the room with anger. He laughed and told me that Parris (his longtime companion and now wife) felt much the same way, and said if ***** is dead, you can go pack your bags right now. He's a very funny, personable guy, infectious laugh. He's a rockstar now because of HBO I think. Still it's less than 3 months away from his self proclaimed FIRM release date, and the manuscript isn't yet finished.

Crossing fingers.
And I look forward to next weeks episode.
