The Ultimate Tex Murphy Twist (spoilers)
I was just thinking about what's next for Tex and just came up with the ultimate plot hook. So there's a strong indication that after the cliffhanger Tex is going to have to deal with the supernatural. So the most appropriate resolution would be to give the unexpected rational explanation. Since people are probably thinking the supernatural stuff will be real in this follow up like the aliens in Roswell it would be genius to throw the wicked curveball.
The explanation? Tex telling his Mean Streets case to Chelsee was simply a dream over the girl he's crazy about. It would explain why Overseer isn't 1 to 1 with Mean Streets and why Delores Lightbody and Sylvia Linsky are played by different actors. It's very believable that it's wishful thinking on Tex's part to get another date with Chelsee.

No no, this would be the ultimate twist...
Tex awakens in a house he doesn't recognize, in a place with green hills and blue skies. In the house there are pictures with a guy who looks exactly like him, but shaven. And he finds a bunch of little boxes on a shelf with his own name on them! He opens them and they explain... everything. It all makes sense to him now.
After some investigation, Tex figures out that it is Utah, in the past, in a different dimension where WWIII didn't happen (yet), and he is some other person here. And whatever happened to the other guy? Tex chooses not to care-- everything bad that had ever happned to him was the other guy's fault.
Since Tex knows nothing about being a finance exec, a day later he quits his job, and starts over as a P.I. again. But no one seems to be upset that he is constantly "in character" because Tex is just so awesome.
Meanwhile, in Tex's dimension...

"How can that be the end? What kind of ending is that? What happened to him? "
" I don't know. Maybe he went home and celebrated with a couple of cheeseburgers."
"Geez, that ending sucks! Why don't you make it so that ... so that he goes home and he shoots his father, then he runs away an', and he joins the Texas Rangers. How about that?"
