Kicking it Forward
Brian Fargo, the man behind the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter fund, has developed a very interesting new idea. Kickstarter projects with the Kicking it Forward logo have agreed that they will “solemnly pledge 5% of the profits from the finished product back to the Kickstarter community to help fund other people's dreams.” For the full details, go here: http://www.kickingitforward.org/
This might encourage more people to donate to Fedora, especially Kickstarter enthusiasts. It may not be necessary, but it’s something to consider. While I’m sure a lot of Fedora’s profits will be used to help produce the next game in the trilogy, it would also be cool to give 5% back to another cool adventure game fund on Kickstarter.

Kicking it Forward if it catches on will only be beneficial if there is favoritism. Otherwise it would all cancel out.
By the way I don't know if there is a trilogy anymore, because I'm not sure Big Finish wants to risk another cliffhanger. So this Tex game may be the trilogy from start to finish. I guess stretching things out would be a good reason to donate a lot.

Well, Chris mentioned in his annoucement video, that a larger scale game would appeal to more people, and hopefully allow for continuation.Bjyman wrote:Kicking it Forward if it catches on will only be beneficial if there is favoritism. Otherwise it would all cancel out.

I'd like to hope that if Project Fedora is a success, and if it does finish off the Tex trilogy story, they'd there would be a chance of new Tex stories. But let's worry about once the time comes.

I'd be happy if it only went back into video games, but sadly I don't think it does. But I've become very tired of the Amazon propaganda squads touting how successful kickstarter is based off numbers that purely are held up by Tim Schafer, Brian Fargo and the rest of the video games industry.. if it wasn't for the video games industry adopting it Kickstarter wouldn't be having the success it has been. They say that these multi-million dollar projects are the norm.. not true. They also seem to suggest that more publicity will move into other areas of Kickstarter again not true.
Kicking it forward is a great idea in theory.. I would absolutely hate it should most of the money go into a board game or some music doco ect.. Ideally I'd love to see it go right into the pockets of a indie game dev.. and frankly I'm ashamed that its taken the industry so long to even consider doing an indie development fund concept. Kudos to Fargo for this, but I'm worried in the end its just going to cause Amazon to be a lot bigger douchebags about it. I really dislike Amazon. Their success is strictly permitted by our industry and they need to learn their forking place lol We made you what you are Kickstarter.. don't forget it! We can also break you too. So touting on that Fargo's idea was Kickstarter exclusive is redundant.. its a great idea that should be and very well can be adopted throughout the industry.
Lets say that whats been going on with Fargo so far is almost enough to redeem him in my eyes for running interplay into the ground because of his ego and then running into bed with Bethesda like a fool (which in turn bit him in the ass big time.. but I knew that was coming). If he pulls off Wasteland 2 I might be inclined to forgive him. IF he pulls it off.
Great initiative but Amazon seriously needs to shut the fork up.

There's always the chance that in the final Tex dies or becomes trapped in another universe at the end of the trilogy. So it's not just a success thing to consider for post trilogy cases. Personally I feel Tex is best in the UAKM and Pandora world so I would be down for old school cases. Of course if its too final there's always prequels.
As far as the Amazon thing goes I'm not sure I get it. If Kickstarter wanted to couldn't they fire Amazon and go to someone like PayPal? But perhaps they don't want to and it was love at first sight.

Hm, I wouldn't feel too great about it being PayPal instead, their support isn't too great. Recently had issues with them whereby none of the options in their automatic "resolution centre" were appropriate for me to choose and it was tough to get a straight answer or through to a real person without paying hefty phone charges (support live chat is powered by a robot and emails were auto-responded). But I continue to use them as they have the monopoly on that kind of thing and other services like Moneybookers aren't as convenient or widepsread. Admittedly I've never had much need to use Amazon support (which is maybe a good sign) so I don't know much on that front. Of course a partnership is different to a customer so maybe partners get better customer support with PayPal... But PayPal would need to make sure they update their policy and security measures which currently sometimes means fundriaisers get frozen suddenly.

There's lots of other crowdfunding sites like Indie Go Go etc. but Kickstarter is in the forefront of peoples minds due to the recent bighitters.

I wonder if you could request that your 5% be used in the same category that your project was in???
As for Tex we could finish it all off in his big finale, whenever that may come... Tex goes off on a Mission to Save the World, you know business as usual... But in this one he fails and the entire world is snuffed out... Maybe have a villain do something that makes the Sun go Nova or something and destroys everything... How is that for going out with a Bang...
